Job Description
The Landing Station Systems Specialist provides deep technical expertise to support the design, integration, deployment, and operational readiness of satellite Landing Station systems. This role focuses on system-level integration across communications, IT, networking, facilities, and infrastructure, ensuring Landing Station solutions are reliable, secure, supportable, and aligned with program objectives.
Working as part of the Landing Station program team, the Systems Specialist collaborates closely with engineering, program management, operations, vendors, and external partners to deliver mission‑critical ground infrastructure supporting next‑generation satellite constellations.
Key Responsibilities
Landing Station Systems Integration
- Lead and support the integration of Landing Station communications, IT, network, and supporting infrastructure systems across multiple sites.
- Collaborate with segment engineering teams to ensure end‑to‑end system compatibility, interface alignment, and operational readiness.
- Support system architecture decisions with a focus on reliability, scalability, cybersecurity, and lifecycle cost optimization.
Deployment & Activation Support
- Provide hands‑on technical guidance during Landing Station deployment, integration, and commissioning activities.
- Coordinate technical activities across hardware, software, facilities, and network teams during deployment and activation phases.
- Support troubleshooting, fault isolation, and resolution of complex system issues during build and turn‑up.
Systems Documentation & Handover
- Develop and consolidate technical documentation including system descriptions, configuration baselines, integration procedures, and operational manuals.
- Support development of operational data, ConOps materials, and handover packages to ensure a smooth transition to Operations and Space segments.
- Ensure system documentation remains current, accurate, and aligned with deployed configurations.
Operational Support & Continuous Improvement
- Provide post‑deployment technical support and recommendations to improve system reliability, serviceability, and cost efficiency.
- Identify opportunities for system standardization, reuse, and technology refresh across Landing Station sites.
- Support root‑cause analysis and corrective actions for system incidents and performance issues.
Vendor & Stakeholder Collaboration
- Support technical evaluations, vendor engagement, and solution assessments for Landing Station systems and subsystems.
- Review vendor designs, documentation, and deliverables to ensure compliance with technical and operational requirements.
- Act as a technical liaison between internal teams and external suppliers throughout the system lifecycle.
Qualifications
Education
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline.
- Advanced degrees or specialized certifications are considered assets.
Experience
- 10+ years of experience in satellite communications, ground station systems, network engineering, or complex IT/communications infrastructure environments.
- Demonstrated experience designing, integrating, and supporting multi‑disciplinary systems spanning communications, IT, networking, and facilities.
- Experience supporting remote or distributed operational environments is strongly preferred.
Technical Skills & Competencies
- Strong systems integration, troubleshooting, and fault‑isolation skills.
- In‑depth knowledge of satellite communications and ground station technologies.
- Experience with Layer 2 / Layer 3 networking, carrier hand‑off/demarcation, and secure network architectures.
- Familiarity with network and system management protocols and tools (e.g., SNMP, telemetry, remote monitoring).
- Knowledge of data centre or critical infrastructure design including power systems, HVAC, surveillance, and physical security.
- Experience with virtualization platforms, enterprise IT services, and cybersecurity‑focused system design.
- Strong documentation skills, including system descriptions, technical procedures, and operational handover materials.

Working Conditions
- Full‑time position with an office hybrid or Remote work from home environment.
- Primarily office‑based with periodic field support activities at Landing Station sites.
- Domestic and international travel may be required.
- The successful candidate must be eligible to work in Canada and able to obtain and maintain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP).
This role does not typically include direct reports but is expected to provide technical leadership and mentorship within multi‑disciplinary project teams.
