Purpose Of Job
- As a Senior Product Owner, you will play a pivotal role in our Agile development process, acting as the bridge between our customers, stakeholders, and the development team. Your primary responsibility will be to define the product and prioritize its implementation, ensuring that our development efforts are aligned with the strategic goals of the organization and delivering maximum value to our customers.
- The System Operations Software organization is responsible for several interoperating systems that manage and control the Lightspeed satellite communication network. Your role will include the coordination of their functionalities to make their sum greater than the parts. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of technology and execution, and who is passionate about building products that enable global connectivity.
Main Responsibilities
- Product Vision: Develop and communicate a clear vision for the product, ensuring alignment with the overall business strategy and customer needs.
- Requirement Gathering: Work closely with stakeholders to gather and document requirements, ensuring that all user stories are clear, concise, and actionable. Organize the traceability of requirements to implementation, delivery, and testing.
- Backlog Management: Prioritize and maintain the product backlog, ensuring that it accurately reflects the priorities of the business and provides the development team with a clear understanding of what needs to be built.
- User Story Definition: Break down high-level requirements into actionable user stories, including detailed acceptance criteria and acceptance tests.
- Release Planning: Collaborate with the development team to plan and prioritize releases, balancing the need for new features with the need for stability and maintenance.
- Team Collaboration: Act as the primary point of contact between the development team and stakeholders, facilitating communication and ensuring that everyone is aligned on priorities and expectations. Work actively with other product teams to ensure that inter-dependencies are identified, scheduled, and resolved.
- Vendor Interaction: Work closely with vendors providing components and systems to Lightspeed. Ensure that our requirements are understood and our priorities addressed.
- Quality Assurance: Work closely with the QA team to ensure that all user stories meet the required quality standards before they are released to production.
- Customer Feedback: Gather feedback from customers and stakeholders and incorporate it into the product backlog, ensuring that the product continues to evolve to meet changing needs and market conditions.
- Support and Training: Become a knowledgeable user of our tools. Provide support and training to end-users to ensure successful adoption and optimal utilization of the implemented systems.
Education & Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree in telecommunication, network engineering, software engineering or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 10 years as a developer, system analyst, product line manager, or similar roles in the telecom industry.
- Experience with element management, network management, and control plane applications.
- Familiarity with virtualization, cloud native architecture principles, multi-tenant applications, streaming, data analytics, and distributed storage systems.
- Highly motivated and able to independently drive projects to completion
- Creative problem-solving skills and strong analytical skills
- Strong written and oral English communication skills
- Familiarity with satellite and wireless telecommunications considered an asset.
Decision Making & Supervision
- This role requires making recommendations and decisions which will have influence on the network operations and control solution of the Telesat Lightspeed network.
- This role requires contributions as an individual and a team member and does not have direct reports.
Working Condition
- Hybrid workplace model with four days a week in the office. This policy is subject to change.
- Occasional international travel is anticipated.
