About The Common Market
We are a nonprofit regional wholesale food distributor. We started in 2008 to connect communities with food from sustainable family farms, aiming to strengthen health and wealth by building regional food systems. We do this by building relationships between sustainable family farms and markets, overseeing the supply chain from procurement through delivery.
We work with over 300 sustainable family farms and producers, distributing local foods to more than 1,800 institutions. To date, we’ve delivered over 58 million meals. Last year, we invested $23.8 million in local economies by purchasing food and distributed the equivalent of 7.4 million healthy meals.
Our services include building supply chain capacity, wholesale distribution, and collaborating with stakeholders. We provide farmers with technical assistance and fair pricing, and we support infrastructure for aggregation and distribution. We deliver local products to institutions like schools, hospitals, colleges, and universities. We also serve corporations, early care and elder care facilities, restaurants, retailers, and co-ops.
We operate hubs in four regions: Mid-Atlantic (Philadelphia, PA), Southeast (Atlanta, GA / East Point, GA), Texas (Houston, TX), and Great Lakes (Chicago, IL / Bedford Park, IL). A central office, “The Commons,” supports all our operations.
