Waymo’s Systems Engineering team works together to blend software and hardware systems in groundbreaking new ways. We set the high performance standards that ensure our vehicles run smoothly and keep passengers safe, then design and perform the tests that validate that performance. We’re looking for talented teammates who’ll help us maintain strong teamwork and are passionate about driving results.

This role follows a hybrid work schedule and reports to a Lead Systems Test Engineer.

You will:

  • Own defining, requesting, tracking, and accepting collision avoidance scenarios that are critical to baselining and improving the Waymo Driver
  • Work with your internal team to understand what coverage exists, ans as Waymo expands, what new coverage is needed
  • Work across multiple partner teams to insure requirements are clearly understood, resources are properly allocated, timelines are met, and resulting outputs quality is high
  • Help define and understand the tradeoffs between various next-generation scenario creation technologies
  • Build a framework/tooling to ensure traceability across all steps of the pipeline and decrease friction

You have:

  • 3+ years of experience in tech, automotive, systems/test engineering, or other relevant fields where you have demonstrated a strong positive impact
  • A proven track record of working in dynamic environments while delivering excellent work on complex topics
  • A results-oriented mindset and a love of working across multiple teams, wrangling complex and ambiguous requirements, and delivering quality outputs
  • Basic coding abilities for building, editing, and maintaining data analytics tools and pipelines (Python and/or SQL)
  • Solid intuition about vehicle dynamics, physics/kinematics, and mathematics fundamentals
  • Stellar organization and collaboration skills

We prefer:

  • Large datasets / databases organization and maintenance
  • An Autonomous Vehicle background
  • Background in Simulation
  • Vehicle test track or similar real-world experience

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. Salary Range

$158,000—$200,000 USD
