Job Description
About Wordwall
Wordwall empowers educators to create interactive, customisable teaching materials in minutes—turning static lessons into dynamic, student-centered learning experiences. With just a few simple inputs, teachers can generate a variety of gamified activities, from quizzes and flashcards to arcade-style challenges, making learning more engaging and effective.
We’re flipping the script on traditional educational publishing by putting powerful creation tools directly into teachers’ hands. Our platform fuels a bottom-up content ecosystem—scalable, shareable, and deeply attuned to real classroom needs—powered by a global community of educators.
With millions of active users, strong organic traction, and a product that’s beloved by teachers worldwide, Wordwall is entering an exciting new chapter. We’re focused on building upon an already great product and increasing our impact and reach in key markets like the U.S. and Europe, deepening engagement with our paid user base, and driving innovation through emerging technologies such as AI. We believe we can build an even more powerful product to unlock access to a larger customer base. We’re a lean, mission-driven, remote team building for long-term impact—and we’re looking for creative, driven UX designers to help us craft more amazing user-centric experiences.
About the Role
We’re seeking a strategic and hands-on Senior UX Designer to join our growing product team. This role includes but also goes beyond design execution; you will lead the end-to-end UX workflow. This includes reframing ambiguous requests into solvable design challenges, and using data to inform and validate design strategies (for example by running user studies). You are experienced with all phases of product & UX design and development, and adjust your decision-making accordingly.
Partnering deeply with PMs and engineers, you will lead design initiatives across functions, resolve cross-team UX conflicts, and anticipate delivery risks to maintain high quality under pressure. You are able to articulate and defend design decisions to any audience, directly linking your design direction to user outcomes and broader business goals.
You’ll proactively evolve our design systems and processes when existing ones break down, and raise the team’s overall visual and interaction craft through thoughtful critique and leadership.
Key Responsibilities
1. Design Execution & Strategy
- Own the design process from concept through hand-off to engineering, ensuring usable, intuitive, consistent, and scalable solutions across all devices and user types
- Participate in design iterations, rapid prototyping, design QA, and cross-functional retrospectives
- Reframe ambiguous product requests into solvable, strategic design challenges
- Independently plan, execute, and report on user research, utilising both qualitative insights and quantitative data to inform and validate design
- Take ownership of specific design domains and projects (e.g. a core product area, design system, branding, or accessibility)
2. Design Process, Systems & Mentorship
- Proactively standardise and evolve our component-based design system in Figma
- Maintain documentation for design libraries, processes, and brand guidelines to ensure consistency and efficiency across the organisation
- Raise the team’s overall UX craft by actively reviewing work and providing feedback
3. Cross-functional Leadership & Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with Product Managers and Engineering leads to shape product strategy, influence the overarching UX vision, and anticipate delivery risks
- Work directly with engineers to ensure accurate implementation of your designs
- Navigate and resolve cross-team UX tradeoffs and conflicts, adjusting your approach and decision-making based on the different phases of product and UX design.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience designing digital products or SaaS applications, with at least 2 years experience as a senior designer
- Strong interaction design skills and deep understanding of UX best practices
- Fluency in Figma and component-driven design systems
- A portfolio that demonstrates your ability to navigate ambiguity, solve complex UX problems, and connect design decisions directly to user outcomes and business impact
- Ability to independently plan, execute, and synthesise user research, using both qualitative insights and quantitative data
- Comfortable with autonomously managing multiple workloads, tracking outcomes, and maintaining velocity in a remote, async team
- Comfortable testing and using AI tools to accelerate design
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in EdTech, education platforms, or creator tools
- Experience formally or informally mentoring other designers
- Experience defining and improving cross-team processes or workflows between design, product, and engineering
- Familiarity with UX measurement strategies and understanding the second-order effects of design changes on long-term user behaviour.
What Success Looks Like

You successfully translate ambiguous product goals into clear, actionable, and data-backed design strategies that drive measurable outcomes
You build strong alignment and trust with PMs and engineers
You proactively maintain and evolve our design systems, ensuring consistency and scalability
