Position Summary
- Independently leads financial strategy discussions and deliverables for complex clients who are typically level funded or self-funded with 100 to 500 enrolled EEs and or clients that generate over $100k in revenue and are fully-insured.
- Leverages advanced knowledge in underwriting, plan design, and cost drivers to create financial deliverables including financial and contractual analysis, claims utilization analysis and modeling, renewal projections and premium rate analysis and modeling. Participate in prospective client meetings, as a presenter, as well as conducting initial opportunity analysis.
Primary Responsibilities
Lead RFP process from end to end, including strategy design to placement of coverage for complex middle and large market clients, including those who are level funded or self-funded.
Lead renewal projections, pricing strategies, contribution modeling, self-funded feasibility studies, analysis of financial arrangements and renewal/marketing of self-funded programs (TPA, PBM, Stop Loss).
Analyze financial and utilization data to identify underlying cost drivers, trends and relationship of experience to renewal rating.
Identify and recommend potential changes to mitigate trend, guide renewal strategy, and model plan design alternatives.
Utilize advanced knowledge of medical underwriting and carrier renewal methodologies to identify and leverage opportunities for negotiating with carriers.
Leverage deep carrier relationships to enhance WIAs position in the marketplace and support local offices with challenging issues.
Contribute technical expertise to the improvement and development of models, reporting capabilities and templates that impact innovation and efficiency within the EB Underwriting and Analytics practice.
Pull and analyze data from multiple sources to create impactful presentations with actional insights to support decision making. Makes use of “what if” scenarios to test out ideas and anticipate the probable impact of alternative approaches or circumstances (e.g., plan design, funding,).
Work Experience
Advanced Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
World EB practice Analytics models, deliverables, services and systems, able to impactfully articulate value to prospects, clients and WIA colleagues.
Plan design (e.g., VBD, RBP, PBM,) underwriting, funding concepts and external third-party products/solutions, beyond traditional insurance products. Knowledge of cost saving solutions.
Carrier negotiations with clients with large and highly complex clients
Communication/presentation skills, with ability to present complex financial/data issues and abstract concepts with high level of clarity and impact, summarizing financial impact and making recommendations. Demonstrated ability to adapt style and method of communication to the needs of different audiences, including executive leadership.
Project planning and management from pre-renewal to renewal across multiple clients and teams.
Word, Excel and Power Point. Can analyze data using advance formulas, create charts and graphs, and use templates and design elements effectively.
Excel specific Can use array formulas, nested functions, and can create dynamic charts. Can use data validation tools and can automate tasks using macros. Understand how to use what-if analysis tools like Goal Seek and Solver.
People Management
Acts as a mentor, demonstrates leadership attributes, shares expertise. May plan, assign, monitor, and review progress and accuracy of work, evaluating results of and the work of others. May contribute to the selection, training, and evaluation of others.

Professional Licenses/Certifications
- Must hold state life and health insurance license
Education
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, but equivalent work experience would be considered
Compensation
This position is located in New York State. The base salary for this position at the time of this posting may range from $90,000 to $95,000. Individual compensation varies based on job-related factors, including business needs, experience, level of responsibility, and qualifications. Physical Demands
Office work involves working at a desk most of the time, using a stand-up/sit-down adjustable desk. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Typing, grasping, and repetitive motion typically is required every day, and walking and standing are required occasionally.
