Requirements

The Sales Engineer serves as the technical backbone of the quoting process, partnering with sales representatives to develop accurate, complete, and competitive quotes. This role bridges manufacturing operations and commercial functions by translating customer requirements into precise cost structures, ensuring every quote reflects current material costs, production capabilities, and margin targets before reaching the customer.

Key Responsibilities

•Collaborate with sales representatives to gather and validate customer specifications, formulation requirements, and packaging configurations for quote development

•Calculate and verify quote components including bill of materials costs, manufacturing labor, overhead allocation, and applicable tooling or setup charges

•Determine appropriate minimum order quantities based on production constraints, raw material MOQs, and equipment utilization requirements

•Develop initial costs by coordinating with procurement on current material pricing and vendor lead times

•Verify contribution margin targets based on pricing guidelines and volume tier structures

•Validate quote completeness against required fields checklist before releasing to sales for customer presentation

•Maintain quote accuracy by updating cost assumptions when vendor pricing changes or formulation modifications occur

•Support new product development quotes by coordinating with R&D and Quality on feasibility assessments and regulatory requirements

•Document assumptions and exclusions clearly within quote records to prevent scope ambiguity during order conversion
