What you’ll do
The Controller leads the day-to-day accounting operations, managing the finance team responsible for financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls, while providing final oversight on all accounting outputs. This role plays a key part in financial forecasting, reporting, tax compliance, and internal controls. The Controller will be a strategic partner to the CFO and a liaison to external tax and audit partners. The ideal candidate is highly organized, technically strong, and comfortable managing complexity across multiple accounting workstreams while maintaining agility and adaptability in an ever-changing organization.
Responsibilities
Accounting Leadership & Operations
- Lead and review all aspects of the monthly and year-end close process, including final sign-off on the P&L, balance sheet, and supporting reconciliations
- Manage, coach, and develop a high-performing accounting team, fostering accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Review and approve all disbursements and payroll, ensuring timeliness, accuracy, and adherence to internal controls
- Oversee maintenance of the company’s chart of accounts and financial systems
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including the preparation and final review of financial statements with variance commentary and supporting schedules
- Prepare internal and external reporting packages, including business unit and departmental performance reports
- Partner with leadership on operational reporting, headcount tracking, and budget-to-actual variance analysis
- Lead preparation of financial reports for parent company and related entities
Forecasting & Cash Management
- Lead weekly forecasting for operating expenses and cash flow, identifying risks and opportunities
- Track key operational and financial metrics to support executive decision-making and forward planning
- Support scenario modeling, departmental budget reviews, and spend governance
Compliance, Tax & Audit
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of all federal, state, and local tax obligations in partnership with external advisors
- Oversee all year-end tax requirements including W-2s, 1099s, and tax provision journal entries
- Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors, tax consultants, and parent company stakeholders on all audit and compliance matters
- Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements
- Oversee payroll and payroll tax compliance, ensuring proper filings and funding are executed accurately
Special Projects & Systems
- Continuously assess and improve accounting processes, tools, and policies to support scalability and efficiency
- Support systems upgrades and integrations, including process automation and control enhancements
- Manage ad hoc financial and compliance requests as needed from the CFO, tax teams, or executive leadership
What you will bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA strongly preferred
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including team leadership and full-cycle close ownership
- Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP, internal controls, and corporate tax requirements
- Proven success in a dynamic, high-growth, and collaborative environment
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Experience with cloud-based accounting platforms and experience with Workday or Workday integrations is a strong plus
