Developer Program Manager

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ United Kingdom - Remote
πŸ“‹ Project ManagementπŸ”΅ Mid-level

Job description

Summary

Midnight is a new blockchain platform focused on privacy, security, and data protection. We’re building infrastructure for the next generation of decentralized applications that give developers and users control over their data. As we move toward mainnet, we’re expanding our DevRel team to deepen engagement with our growing developer community.

We’re hiring a Developer Program Manager to lead the design and execution of developer-facing programs that drive activation, collaboration, and retention. This includes managing ongoing initiatives like Midnight Quest, producing hackathons (virtual and in-person), hosting recurring community gatherings like Fireside Hangs, and supporting the broader developer lifecycle through creative, high-signal programming.

This role requires deep empathy for developers, strong program management skills, and a passion for building intentional, welcoming spaces where developers can learn, connect, and ship impactful projects. You’ll collaborate closely with the Developer Education Manager (who leads our Midnight Developer Academy), the Community Operations Manager (who owns our forums and Discord infrastructure), and DevRel Engineers who support content and challenge design.

Main Goals

  • Drive participation and progression through Midnight Quest, our gamified developer engagement and reputation program
  • Own hackathon strategy and delivery: Plan and execute thematic hackathons that result in working prototypes and long-term contributors
  • Cultivate recurring engagement through creative events like Fireside Hangs, feedback sessions, community show-and-tells, and AMA-style gatherings
  • Create connection points across the dev lifecycle, ensuring new and experienced builders alike feel supported and celebrated
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to align programming with education, documentation, and engineering priorities

Responsibilities

Program Ownership & Execution

  • Manage and evolve Midnight Quest: define point systems, reward structures, and progression flows; work with creative and community teams to maintain energy and relevance
  • Plan and run hackathons and technical challenges both internal and vendor-supported including logistics, timelines, challenge design, judging, and post-event support
  • Facilitate Fireside Hangs and informal dev gatherings to surface feedback, build trust, and strengthen ecosystem connection
  • Support new program pilots that explore partnerships, local meetups, or async builder campaigns

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with the Developer Education Manager to align events with course content and learning journeys
  • Partner with the Community Operations Manager to integrate programs into community systems (bots, Discord flows, event scheduling, analytics)

Work closely with DevRel Engineers to design hackathon prompts, quests, and DApp challenges rooted in real use cases

Metrics & Continuous Improvement

  • Define success criteria for each program and track engagement, satisfaction, and long-term contributor conversion
  • Document processes, templates, and playbooks to help us scale our developer programming sustainably
  • Analyze feedback and iterate improving developer experience with every event

Key Competencies

  • Community & Program Experience: 3+ years running developer-facing programs in Web3 or adjacent industries (accelerators, hackathons, DevEx, community platforms)
  • Operational Execution: Excellent project management skills and the ability to execute high-quality programs end-to-end
  • Developer Empathy: Experience working with technical audiences and a passion for making their experience delightful
  • Creative Thinking: Ability to design programs that are novel, engaging, and aligned with Midnight’s identity as a privacy-first, values-driven platform
  • Collaborative Style: Works well with technical, marketing, and community stakeholders - low ego, high accountability

Nice to Have

  • Experience in blockchain DevRel or community strategy roles
  • Familiarity with gamification systems, XP/point mechanics, or reputation-based engagement
  • Past involvement with developer hackathons, including organizing, judging, or mentoring
  • Experience working with event vendors and creative contractors
  • Comfort producing or co-hosting live sessions, livestreams, or async video content
  • A track record of building inclusive and global-first developer spaces

What Success Looks Like

  • Midnight Quest becomes a core part of the developer experience, driving momentum and signaling meaningful contributions

  • Hackathons consistently generate thoughtful, privacy-first prototypes and support pathways for follow-on funding and engagement

  • Fireside Hangs and other events foster a strong sense of ecosystem identity and connection

  • Developers across the world feel welcomed, supported, and incentivized to contribute to Midnight

  • Remote work

  • Laptop reimbursement

  • New starter package to buy hardware essentials (headphones, monitor, etc)

  • Learning & Development opportunities

  • Competitive PTO
