Head of Product
What We Need
As Head of Product on Civilization, you will partner with the studio, project and publishing leadership teams to drive the development of actionable and strategic business plans. Your role will report to the Studio Head and you will be expected to leverage market trends, UX research, and player telemetry to uncover insights and identify growth opportunities for the Civilization franchise. The ideal candidate must have a deep understanding of and love for Civilization and 4X Grand Strategy gameplay. This role requires experience in large-scale game development, exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills, with a proven track record of motivating and guiding large, diverse teams. As a leader with broad expertise, you will help shape the product roadmap and inspire cross-functional teams to deliver exceptional player experiences.
What You Will Do
Strategic Leadership
Partner with game team leadership to create and communicate product roadmaps ensuring alignment with the company’s strategic vision and goals.
In partnership with the Executive Producer, drive alignment across key studio, franchise and product stakeholders to execute long-term strategic plans that drive growth, innovation, and market leadership.
Bring expertise within the strategy gaming genre, understanding competitor titles, market trends, and best-in-class mechanics to guide product and future investment decisions.
Inspire, mentor, and develop senior leaders; foster a high-performance culture that encourages innovation, accountability, and overall product excellence.
Embodies the Studio Values in daily decision-making and communication, and integrates them into team workflows, culture, and leadership practices.
Demonstrates and upholds Firaxis’ leadership expectations, setting a strong example for others while actively reinforcing and holding others accountable to those standards.
Product Leadership
Champion a data-informed culture focused on continuous experimentation, hypothesis testing, and iteration.
Own the game health reporting process, analyzing key metrics and providing strategic recommendations to creative leadership for franchise growth opportunities.
Translate market and player behavior trends into actionable insights that inform product design, roadmap priorities, and player engagement strategies.
Partner with the Executive Producer to drive a global development strategy; maximize high quality output while managing responsible costs.
Multifunctional Collaboration
Foster collaboration across game design, production, and other teams to drive innovation and shared learning.
Partner with 2K teams within Product Management, Production, Growth, Data and Insights, and QA to ensure alignment across the Publisher<>Developer umbrella.
Collaborate with creative leadership, producers and analysts to set clear KPIs, outcomes, and goals while refining the experimentation roadmap to validate key business questions.
Partner with game design and analytics teams to define telemetry requirements, implement tracking events, and optimize reporting and visualization tools.
Business Ownership
Partner with the project leadership and the publisher to define franchise and product P&Ls. Control costs and target impactful product or technology investments.
Identify and manage project and portfolio risks; ensure proactive problem-solving and contingency planning.
Integrate product roadmaps into overall business planning mechanisms with the publisher to accurately reflect product goals and FY targets.
Who We Believe Will Be An Excellent Fit
10+ years of experience in the gaming industry with a deep understanding of game development and publishing cycles.
Strong business acumen and design sensibility, with the ability to connect player behavior to market outcomes and create data-informed product strategies.
Expert knowledge of market trends, business models, and customer preferences across genres, platforms, and demographics.
Experience in evaluating design, UX, and in-game economies to optimize player behavior and engagement.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to distill complex data into actionable insights and make persuasive pitches to game, franchise & studio leadership
Exceptional communication and leadership skills, able to unite cross-functional teams to tackle complex problems and drive business impact.
Ability to act as a strong team communicator to build consensus & align subject experts to resolve complex problems.
Great attention to detail coupled with the ability to see the bigger picture and prioritize competing needs versus deadlines.
Experience working with statistical tools.
A deep passion for strategy gaming, combined with a strong understanding of the genre and industry trends.
Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline, e.g. Mathematics / Statistics / Economics / Finance / Engineering / Computer Science.
