Legalist is an institutional alternative asset management firm. Founded in 2016 and incubated at Y Combinator, the firm uses data-driven technology to invest in credit assets at scale. We are always looking for talented people to join our team.
We’re hiring an Investment Counsel to help deploy our latest litigation finance fund. You’ll be joining a growing team of engineers, lawyers, and investment analysts to make real-time decisions in a fast-paced environment. Core responsibilities:
- Legal research and due diligence on investment opportunities
- Preparation of investment memos
- Real-time negotiation with plaintiffs and attorneys over investment terms and pricing
- Training and working closely with the engineering team to translate legal knowledge into automation
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, History, Law or related field desirable or equivalent experience from a top-tier institution.
- J.D. from an accredited top 20 law school
- 10+ years post-law school experience, including in a litigation practice at AmLaw 200 firm and/or comparable boutique firms
- Experience with plaintiff-side representation, alternative fee arrangements, litigation finance, and/or in an asset-management environment are pluses but not required
- Experience in several of the following areas: commercial litigation, breach of contract, antitrust, multidistrict litigation, employment disputes, whistleblower claims, corporate governance litigation
