Position Summary

The Director of Legal, Compliance and Risk Operations & Strategy is a senior leader reporting directly to the General Counsel, responsible for driving legal department effectiveness, implementing strategic programs to mitigate systemic legal risks, and aligning legal operations with enterprise business goals. This role combines LCR operations management, data-driven decision-making, crisis communications and cross-functional program leadership to proactively reduce litigation exposure and streamline legal, compliance and function performance.  Role has ownership of the LCR analytics and Case Management System and program solutions, as well as crisis management and communications, litigation support, driving contract management software enhancements and government relations monitoring.

LOCATION:  remote - anywhere in the United States

SALARY:  $210-250K + annual bonus

The salary range for this position is based on market data and is intended to provide a general guideline for the position. Actual compensation may vary depending on factors such as experience, qualifications, skills, internal equity, and geographic location.  The final offer will be determined through a comprehensive evaluation during the hiring process.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Program Leadership

  • Lead enterprise-wide operational programs designed to eliminate systemic risks, partnering with HR, Operations, Commercial Sales, Compliance and business units to address recurring legal or risk exposures.
  • Drive the design, execution, and performance monitoring of programmatic relief initiatives (e.g., regulatory response plans, policy overhauls, and legal and risk training strategies) to proactively reduce litigation and regulatory scrutiny.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the General Counsel, providing data, insights, and program recommendations to improve organizational legal health and business alignment.

Operational Excellence

  • Oversee the preparation of quarterly audit letters, ensuring alignment with disclosure obligations, litigation updates, and outside counsel coordination.
  • Establish and track legal department KPIs and team effectiveness metrics, enabling performance benchmarking and resource optimization.
  • Ensure program diligence in vendor management, including contract compliance, risk mitigation processes, and centralized documentation.
  • Monitor and support wage and hour compliance efforts in collaboration with HR, ensuring proactive resolution of classification or compensation issues.

Outside Counsel & Spend Management

  • Oversee adherence to outside counsel billing guidelines, managing performance and cost-efficiency, and aligning outside legal work with internal standards and budgets.
  • Partner with Finance to develop legal spend forecasts, vendor assessments, and savings strategies.

Dashboarding & Reporting

  • Lead development of the General Counsel’s legal dashboard, integrating metrics across litigation, compliance, contracts, spend, and employee sentiment to drive decision-making.
  • Create executive-level reporting packages and visualizations to support board, audit committee, and enterprise risk discussions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies

Knowledge

  • Understanding of legal/compliance/risk or HR operations best practices, including process optimization, spend management, and technology enablement.
  • Strong grasp of crisis management communications and stakeholder management
  • Familiarity with audit response protocols, and compliance controls
  • Experience working directly with C-suite executives, leadership, and cross-functional teams.
  • Adept at change management, process improvement, and influencing across departments.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a culture of integrity, accountability, and innovation.

Experience

  • 8+ years of experience in legal operations, strategy, or corporate departments, with progressive responsibility.
  • Proven leadership in designing and executing department and/or enterprise level risk reduction programs.
  • Strong knowledge of corporate processes, data management, ability to build compliance checks and frameworks.
  • Exceptional communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
