Job description
Virta Health is on a mission to transform type 2 diabetes and weight-loss care. Current treatment approaches aren’t working—over half of US adults have either type 2 diabetes or prediabetes, and obesity rates are at an all-time high. Virta is changing this by helping people reverse their metabolic condition through innovations in technology, personalized nutrition, and virtual care delivery reinvented from the ground up. We have raised over $350 million from top-tier investors, and partner with the largest health plans, employers, and government organizations to help their employees and members restore their health and take back their lives. Join us on our mission to reverse diabetes and obesity in one billion people.

This role leads the payroll team, supports internal and external audits, ensures SOX compliance, and ensures Virta has scalable, well-documented payroll processes and controls. You’ll collaborate closely with Finance, Accounting, HR, and Legal, and drive continuous improvements to support Virta’s rapid growth.
Responsibilities

Own the preparation, documentation, and execution of multi-state payroll cycles, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and adherence to internal deadlines.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax and labor regulations, as well as internal controls expectations such as SOX compliance, while staying current with evolving legislation and industry best practices.
Lead and execute payroll audits, including ongoing reconciliations of payroll accounts, tax withholdings, benefits contributions, and other deductions.

Partner with Accounting and Legal to ensure payroll operations are well-documented, audit-ready, and aligned with evolving compliance expectations as the company scales.
Champion continuous process improvement; identify opportunities to automate workflows, reduce errors, and scale payroll operations for IPO readiness.
Lead or support key initiatives such as system upgrades, vendor transitions, new benefit implementations, and M&A-related payroll integration.
