Job description

At Instructure, we believe in the power of people to grow and succeed throughout their lives. Our goal is to amplify that power by creating intuitive products that simplify learning and personal development, facilitate meaningful relationships, and inspire people to go further in their education and careers. We do this by giving smart, creative, passionate people opportunities to create awesome.

And that’s where you come in: You like to solve problems. You are curious, inquisitive, and innovative. You believe that successful products emerge from well-researched problems and are built by successful teams with attention to detail, effective communication, and collaboration. You enjoy analyzing data and ideas to help customers solve problems. For you, research is about collaborating with an interdisciplinary team, working closely with customers, designing studies, collecting data, and constantly evaluating how to make our work better. You are looking for an opportunity where you can combine your desire to solve problems, work with people, and continue to develop your research and evaluation skills.

This role has a flexible location, with a preference for applicants based in VA or NC due to team logistics.

What you will be doing:

  • Be a champion for Instructure’s internal and external research and evaluation work.
  • Support data quality assurance efforts.
  • Analyze education data, infer results, and generate reports for non-technical and technical audiences using advanced quantitative analyses (e.g., logistic regression, multilevel modeling, propensity score matching, structural equation modeling).
  • Support item response theory analyses and predictive validity studies for our assessment solutions.
  • Develop program logic models/theories of change and perform literature reviews.
  • Communicate about educational research and evaluation designs, study status, and results using non-technical language.
  • Own and manage deliverables that progress product evaluations, research projects and company goals.
  • Organize, document, and communicate planned work with the Associate Director of Research, Senior Researchers and your teammates.
  • Work with Researchers, Product Managers, Designers, Marketers, and Engineers to execute planned work in alignment with our roadmap

What you will need to know/have:

  • At least 2-4 years of professional experience working in K-12 education research or program evaluation.
  • Masters or Doctorate degree in Evaluation, Statistics, Educational Psychology, Psychology, Learning Sciences, Social Sciences, or other related field.
  • Willingness and ability to work in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
  • Strong time management, project management, and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Experience with Stata or R for quantitative analyses.
  • Experience translating technical findings for non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with Asana, JIRA, Trello and/or other project management tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work in a highly collaborative environment with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Self-starter with a bias towards responsible action.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving aptitude and ability to remove blockers to project delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to regularly meet and exceed expectations, particularly as it relates to communication and project deadlines.

It would be a bonus if you had:

  • Experience with R analyses and reporting via R Markdown.
  • Experience working for a software development organization.
  • Experience or familiarity with the AERA, APA, and NCME Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing (2014).

Get in on all the awesome:

  • We offer competitive, meaningful benefits in every country where we operate. While they vary by location, here’s a general idea of what you can expect:
  • Competitive compensation and participation in Instructure’s equity program
  • Flexible schedules and a remote-friendly culture, with hybrid or onsite work based on business needs
  • Generous paid time off, including global holidays and our annual “Dim the Lights” company-wide shutdown from December 26 to December 31
  • Comprehensive wellness programs and mental health support
  • Annual learning and development stipends to support your growth
  • We provide the technology and tools you need to do your best work—typically a Mac, with PC options available in some locations
  • A culture rooted in inclusivity, support, and meaningful connection

$78,000 - $88,000 a year

This range reflects our target hiring range, with flexibility based on experience, skills, and market factors.

We’ve always believed in hiring the most awesome people and treating them right. We know that the more diverse we are, the more diverse our ideas will be — and when we openly welcome those ideas, our environment is better and our business is stronger. All Instructure employees are required to successfully pass a background check upon being hired.
