Job description
About Us:
Monarch is a powerful, all-in-one personal finance platform designed to help make the complexity of finances feel simple again. Since launching in 2021, we’ve become the top-recommended personal finance app by users and experts. Our goal? To take the stress out of finances so our members can focus on what truly matters.
We are a team of do-ers led by experienced entrepreneurs who are passionate about helping our members reach their financial goals. We are hyper focused on building a product people love and continuing to evolve based on user feedback.
As a fully remote company (even before COVID!), we welcome applicants from almost anywhere. Our team collaborates synchronously mostly from 9 AM – 2 PM PT and embraces asynchronous work to stay connected across time zones.
Join us on our mission to transform lives by simplifying money, together.
The Role:
We’re looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to help bring our accounting function in-house as we scale. This is a unique opportunity to be a foundational member of our internal accounting team and contribute to building modern, scalable processes from the ground up.
You’ll work closely with our outsourced accounting partner to understand and document current practices, then support the transition of responsibilities to our internal team — with an eye toward improving and automating processes, reducing close time, and building a best in class accounting function. You’ll play a key role in the monthly close and contribute across tax, audit, and cross-functional financial operations.
You’ll also be joining at a pivotal moment: our Controller (to whom this role reports) will be going on parental leave shortly after your expected start date, so you’ll have the chance to ramp up quickly, take on meaningful ownership, and make an immediate impact while being supported by the broader Finance team. This is a high-impact role with visibility and responsibility from day one.
What You’ll Do:
Support the transition of accounting operations from outsourced to in-house
Own core parts of the monthly and quarterly close, including journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting
Maintain and refine the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and compliance with U.S. GAAP
Partner with FP&A on variance analysis, accruals, and reporting deliverables
Support audit preparation and interface with external auditors and tax advisors
Help identify and implement process improvements for greater efficiency and scale
Collaborate cross-functionally with teams including FP&A, People Ops, and Engineering
What You’ll Bring:
3-6 years of progressive accounting experience
Strong technical accounting skills and working knowledge of U.S. GAAP
Background in Big Four public accounting or high-growth startups is required; experience in both is strongly preferred.
CPA preferred
Self-starter who thrives in ambiguity and is excited to build from scratch
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
Mission-driven and eager to make a meaningful impact
Typical Process:
Recruiter Video Call
Hiring Manager Video Call
Stakeholder Interview
Take Home Assignment
Final Round Interview
Reference Checks
