About Team Rubicon
We are a veteran-led humanitarian organization founded in 2010. We help communities globally before, during, and after disasters and crises, providing disaster relief and aid.
Our first operation was a team of seven responding to the Haiti earthquake. Today, we operate nationwide, responding to various disasters like glacial floods, hurricanes (e.g., Hurricane Helene), wildfires, and long-term recovery in places like Kentucky and California. In 2025, our volunteers worked over 230,000 hours, helping more than 500,000 people in over 825 communities.
We offer our services free to disaster survivors, funded by individuals, corporate sponsors, and partners. We work with community leaders, emergency managers, and local organizations to find and meet unmet needs. We do not partner with or accept funding from businesses in adult content or entertainment, tobacco/e-cigarette/vapor, cannabis, or arms industries.
Our programs include Long Term Recovery, Construction Project Management, Workforce Development, Domestic Operations, and Client Services.
Mission & Values
Our mission is to serve global communities before, during, and after disasters and crises as a veteran-led humanitarian organization. Our vision is to support humanity and build resilience for vulnerable communities worldwide. We operate under a set of core values that shape our culture, which we describe as “not for the faint of heart.”
Our values include:
- MISSION FIRST, GREYSHIRTS ALWAYS: Support our volunteers (Greyshirts) in their service to communities.
- STEP INTO THE ARENA: Be bold, tenacious, and persistent when facing challenges.
- EVERYONE HAS A ROLE. KNOW IT.: Collaborate and leverage individual strengths.
- GET SHIT DONE.: Be determined and overcome obstacles in disaster response.
- CHANGE YOUR SOCKS.: Prioritize self-care and mutual support.
- ADULTS ONLY.: Uphold high standards of respect, communicate well, and assume best intentions.
- YOUR MOTHER’S A DONOR.: Invest resources thoughtfully, responsibly, and with conviction.
Team & Culture
We employ between 51 and 200 staff members. Our volunteer force, known as “Greyshirts,” includes over 180,000 tenacious, gritty, and resilient individuals.
Our culture is demanding yet supportive. We value staff who are bold, badass, and ceaselessly compassionate. The Greyshirt role is central, and every staff member is expected to embody it.
We recognize employees quarterly with “The Teddy” award, given to individuals who show tenacity and leadership in facing challenges, inspired by Teddy Roosevelt.
