Job description

Why Charlie Health?

Millions of people across the country are navigating mental health conditions, substance use disorders, and eating disorders, but too often, they’re met with barriers to care. From limited local options and long wait times to treatment that lacks personalization, behavioral healthcare can leave people feeling unseen and unsupported.

Charlie Health exists to change that. Our mission is to connect the world to life-saving behavioral health treatment. We deliver personalized, virtual care rooted in connection—between clients and clinicians, care teams, loved ones, and the communities that support them. By focusing on people with complex needs, we’re expanding access to meaningful care and driving better outcomes from the comfort of home.

As a rapidly growing organization, we’re reaching more communities every day and building a team that’s redefining what behavioral health treatment can look like. If you’re ready to use your skills to drive lasting change and help more people access the care they deserve, we’d love to meet you.

About the Role

As the second dedicated mobile engineer at Charlie Health, you will establish the direction and build mobile applications from the ground up. You will both define the strategic foundation and lead development to create exceptional, impactful solutions. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, you will shape, refine, and scale our mobile experience to deliver on our mission of improving mental health care access. This role offers the opportunity to set standards and lay the groundwork for future mobile engineering hires, guiding team growth and success. Ideal candidates thrive on greenfield projects, innovation, and creating both immediate and long-term impact.

We’re a team of passionate, forward-thinking professionals eager to take on the challenge of the mental health crisis and play a formative role in providing life-saving solutions. If you’re inspired by our mission and energized by the opportunity to increase access to mental healthcare and impact millions of lives in a profound way, apply today.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, deploy, and maintain high-quality, scalable cross-platform (React Native) mobile applications from the ground up.
  • Define and establish the technical direction, architecture, and best practices for cross-platform mobile development, creating a strong foundation for current and future projects.
  • Own the entire lifecycle of mobile features, from ideation and design through development, testing, release, and ongoing support, ensuring a seamless and performant user experience.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design, product, and other engineering teams, to define and iterate on mobile features that deliver user and business value.
  • Mentor and guide other engineers, fostering a collaborative, growth-oriented mobile engineering culture and advocating for React Native best practices.
  • Leverage data, user feedback, and analytics to continually enhance and refine the mobile product experience.
  • Drive improvements in mobile development processes, tools, and workflows to maximize efficiency, scalability, and quality.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience building and delivering mobile applications in production environments for both iOS and Android, with at least 2 years of recent professional experience using React Native.
  • Expertise in React Native and JavaScript/TypeScript and a solid understanding of native build processes for iOS and Android.
  • Proven ability to build and own CI/CD pipelines for mobile applications that cover the entire development lifecycle, from testing, building, qa’ing, and listing releases in the Apple App Store and Google Play.
  • Experience instrumenting and monitoring cross-platform mobile applications with tools such as Datadog or Sentry.
  • Strong understanding of mobile design principles, UX best practices, and platform-specific considerations for creating exceptional user experiences.
  • Familiarity with Expo and its suite of tools for managing and deploying React Native applications is a plus.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with experience working closely with cross-functional product, design, and engineering teams.
  • Effective problem-solving skills and the ability to break down complex challenges into actionable solutions.
  • Growth mindset, adaptability, and a passion for working in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
