About the Role
Wirecutter is looking for an imaginative Software Engineer to help build playful, dramatic experiences to bring Wirecutter’s world-class journalism to new audiences. As a Storytelling Software Engineer, you will sit in a team that includes engineers, product management, design, project management and editorial. You will report to our Senior Engineering Manager. Wirecutter’s mission is to be the most trusted and helpful recommendation service โ to do that, we need to meet people where they are with considered, dynamic, and inviting web experiences. This is a remote position. You will also have the option to go into our NYC offices.
Wirecutter is powered by a modern web stack consisting of a variety of languages and frameworks including: SCSS, React, NextJS, GSAP, Node.js, Apollo GraphQL.
Responsibilities:
Write, test, debug, and deploy code across a variety of languages and frameworks, particularly CSS(SCSS) and Javascript/React.
Work across the different phases of the software development lifecycle including design, building, QA testing, deploying, documenting, debugging, and supporting features.
Participate in stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives at the agile team level and up.
Perform code reviews with helpful and meaningful feedback for your teammates.
Research, document, note trade-offs and recommend potential solutions around future product features.
Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.
Basic Qualifications:
3+ years experience with front-end development.
3+ years experience programming in Javascript.
2+ years experience applying software principles, application architecture, data structures, coding conventions, and security practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
2+ years experience developing features that require integration with WordPress or Drupal.
2+ years experience with distributed or hybrid teams.
2+ years experience with CSS, design systems, accessibility, performant UI, and SEO
