What you’ll do
Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:
- Support team in a growing operational role managing tax compliance (direct and indirect), particularly in a dynamic automotive start-up environment.
- Oversee and ensure compliance with tax regulations, including sales and use tax, income tax and other applicable taxes across various jurisdictions.
- Prepare, review, and file indirect tax returns in a timely manner, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Support various direct tax functions, including preparing tax schedules and reviewing returns as needed.
- Maintain the organization’s compliance calendar for direct and indirect taxes and confirm all taxes are being filed and paid where required.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance and supply chain, to identify and address tax risks and opportunities.
- Utilize tax automation tools enhance efficiency and accuracy in tax processes.
- Conduct research and analysis on tax issues to support business operations.
- Assist in tax audits as necessary and respond to inquiries from tax authorities, ensuring proper documentation and defense strategies.
- Participate in training and provide support to internal stakeholders regarding tax policies and procedures.
Location & Travel Expectations:
- This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Columbia, South Carolina or we will consider remote applicants in the Southeast. This role is not eligible for remote work in New York City.
- The responsibilities of this role require attendance in office with in-person meetings and events occasionally.
- Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in indirect tax, preferably in the automotive industry.
- Deep understanding of indirect tax laws and regulations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and educate stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects effectively.
Preferred
- Proficiency with tax automation software, including ONESOURCE Indirect Tax, and ERP systems such as SAP S/4HANA.
- Additional transaction tax experience including HST/GST and VAT.
- Retail or direct to consumer experience.

Pay Transparency
This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate’s skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.
Initial base salary range = $95,000.00 - $115,000.00
