About the Role
We are seeking an experienced video editor for a temporary freelance project to post-produce our flagship Prepared Hero Digital Academy - a 12-module emergency preparedness education series featuring expert firefighters and safety authorities. This is premium educational content with real-world safety impact, requiring professional editing skills to create Discovery Channel-style instructional videos that are confidence-building and family-focused. The successful candidate will work on a flat-fee basis to deliver approximately 120 minutes of polished content over a 4-6 week timeline, maintaining consistent branding and high production values across all modules.
Edit educational modules (8-12 minutes each) from multi-camera footage shot over 10 production days
Number of individual edits will depend on how many editors we bring on for this project
Create seamless integration of talking head sequences, product demonstrations, and soft dramatization scenes
Develop and maintain consistent visual branding, color grading, and aesthetic across entire series
Design and integrate motion graphics, educational overlays, statistical callouts, and downloadable resource promotions
Mix professional audio with dialogue priority and appropriate background music/sound design
Color correct and grade footage for warm, trustworthy, professional appearance
Deliver 4K master files and 1080p distribution files with chapter markers and closed caption preparation
Collaborate with creative team through milestone reviews and feedback implementation
Ensure natural product integration without sales-heavy presentation
Maintain project timeline with regular progress updates and professional communication
Qualifications
3+ years professional video editing experience, specifically with educational/instructional content
Proficiency in professional editing software (Avid, Premiere Pro, or Final Cut Pro X)
Color grading experience (DaVinci Resolve preferred)
Motion graphics capability (After Effects or equivalent)
Multi-camera editing and professional talking head experience
Series production workflow efficiency and brand consistency expertise
Understanding of online video optimization and delivery requirements
Portfolio demonstrating similar educational content, multi-camera integration, and motion graphics work
Strong communication skills and ability to work independently under deadline pressure
Experience with collaborative review processes and implementing creative feedback
