The Data, Technology, and Innovation (DTI) Data Intern will support the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) project by assisting with day-to-day data operations, system support, and data quality enhancement efforts.. This role is ideal for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience within a large, fast-paced public sector implementation that supports statewide emergency response operations.
Intern responsibilities include building and maintaining reports and dashboards, performing data entry, cleansing, and validation, and assisting with data access controls and documentation cleanup to improve system organization, governance and security. The intern will also support basic data structure updates, assist with troubleshooting introductory data workflows or automated processes, and help resolve data-related support requests.
During Emergency Operations Center (EOC) activations, the intern may be asked to provide additional data and system support to ensure accuracy, continuity, and readiness of mission-critical workflows.
This internship offers exposure to real-world data operations, emergency management processes, and collaboration with technical and program teams. It provides a strong foundation for candidates seeking careers in data analytics, public sector technology, information systems, or enterprise data support.

Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities

Work with data analyst, developers, and technical staff to support new and existing data initiatives, reports, and systems.
Provide support for projects that require data analysis, reporting, data pipeline assistance, or system configuration within current solutions.
Identify opportunities to streamline or improve data collection, reporting, and validation processes.
Perform data-related activities, including:
- Reporting and dashboard development
- Data entry, cleansing, and validation
- Data access, documentation, and structure cleanup
Troubleshoot basic data workflows, reporting errors, or automation issues and assist with triaging support requests.
Assist with projects that may have a direct impact on internal stakeholders or external partners.
Participate in shadowing opportunities and gain exposure to multiple divisions, datasets, and initiatives as available.
In limited circumstances, assist with research, project administration, documentation, or process improvement efforts.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience and Education Required
- Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program (or recently graduated within the past year) in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution in the Tallahassee, FL area.
- 6-24+ months customer service experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365, particularly Excel. (e.g., formulas, pivot tables, data formatting).
Experience and Education Preferred
- Current GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- 1+ years of experience working with data, reporting tools, or enterprise systems.
- Exposure to data visualization or analytics platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, SQL-based reporting, or similar tools).
- Coursework or certifications related to data analytics, business intelligence, or information systems.
Supervisory Responsibilities
The Internship position has no direct supervisory responsibility.
Expected Hours of Work
- Schedule may vary and require work on evenings and weekends and dependability and punctuality are paramount.
- Must be able to work approximately 8am -5pm Eastern Time Zone hours.
Physical Demands
- Sitting or standing for hours at a time.
- Ability to work at a computer for prolonged periods of time if needed.
Work Environment
- The internship is considered hybrid working in the client office.
Additional Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must pass company and any applicable client background check and reference check upon offer of employment.
- Eligibility to work in the United States is required.
