About Asimov Press
We founded Asimov Press in 2023 to publish content about science and technology that promotes human flourishing. We publish an online magazine and books. Our content focuses on scientific progress, especially in biology and metascience. We feature writing from researchers, policy experts, and journalists with scientific backgrounds.
Our online magazine comes out four times a year and is free and ad-free. We’re interested in areas like biotech, synthetic biology, engineering, CRISPR, DNA, and molecular and general biology. We publish three article types:
- Long Reads: These contextualize scientific progress and explore the history of transformative technologies.
- Columns: Shorter pieces that lay out problems and their significance.
- Fiction: Stories that imagine plausible and positive futures to inspire readers.
We also occasionally commission photo essays and written interviews. We pay $1,500 for articles under 2,500 words and $2,000 for longer ones. Fiction pieces receive $1,000.
Mission & Values
Our mission is to make sense of scientific progress and focus on technologies that promote human flourishing. Our editorial independence supports this mission. These principles guide our work:
- Builders: We aim to foster an intellectual community interested in how things work and what’s possible.
- Vigilant: We acknowledge the risks of scientific progress and help readers and researchers apply new capabilities responsibly.
- Mechanistic: Our articles are precise, clear, and explain the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of scientific phenomena, avoiding portraying science as magic.
- Fair: We’re excited by science’s positive potential, but our articles are fair to (or ‘steelman’) alternative approaches and don’t promote a single viewpoint.
- Data-driven: Our content relies on quantitative evidence, probabilistic reasoning, and rigorous fact-checking, free from hype. We correct factual errors promptly.
