Job Description
π The Job Mission
The Commercial Lead is responsible for leading a commercial team in the successful delivery of all pre- and post-contract commercial activities across a portfolio of high-value contracts on a nuclear power plant project.
You will typically be accountable for contracts up to Β£2bn in value, subject to risk and complexity, and will lead a commercial team of up to 10 professionals. The role includes leadership of a major Tier 1 site installation contract of critical importance to the project.
π§ Principal Accountabilities
Leadership & Governance
Lead and develop a commercial team of up to 10, fostering high performance and professional development
Ensure all commercial activities are delivered in accordance with site commercial procedures and governance
Define and embed a culture of continuous improvement and lessons learned
Contract & Commercial Management
Lead commercial delivery of a major Tier 1 installation contract
Provide strategic oversight across multiple contracts to ensure alignment with wider project objectives
Manage the full contract lifecycle from procurement through execution and final account
Lead commercial strategy for high-value and high-risk contract elements
Procurement Phase
Ensure procurement programmes align with the Integrated Work Schedule
Confirm adequate time and governance for effective procurement through to contract award
Execution Phase
Lead and manage contract execution, ensuring alignment across:
Scope of work and programme
Pricing structures and schedules
Contract administration and key personnel
Incentives, change control and claims
Lead change management and claims resolution strategy to achieve best project outcomes
Risk, Cost & Performance Management
Overall accountability for commercial and delivery-based risks arising from supplier performance
Lead cost control, transparency and change management processes
Review contract performance and contribute to monthly reporting
Propose and implement corrective actions with the Programme Manager
Lead timely agreement of final accounts, including resolution of complex commercial issues
Stakeholder Engagement
Engage effectively with senior internal stakeholders, executives, external bodies and regulators
Lead collaborative behaviours across the supply chain and project teams
Manage commercial budgets and financial accountability
π Location & Working Pattern
2 days on site in Bridgwater
1 day in the Bridgwater office
2 days working from home
Qualifications
π Qualifications & Experience
Essential Skills
Strong commercial and contract management capability
Proven experience as part of a Project Senior Management Team
Ability to make sound decisions involving significant financial exposure
Strong understanding of procurement, risk management, change management and contract performance
Fluent in English
Essential Experience
Member of RICS / CICES / IOB / CIPS or equivalent professional body
Degree qualified
Experience with NEC and FIDIC contracts within the power or construction industry
Strong understanding of UK law and its impact on contract management
Familiarity with nuclear site licence conditions
Understanding of the UK regulatory framework and international supply chain management
Proven experience managing a Tier 1 contractor on a nuclear or major infrastructure site
