The Vice President of Portfolio Management is a senior enterprise leader responsible for owning the end-to-end portfolio and client delivery strategy across the U.S and European regions. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this role ensures exceptional client outcomes, sustainable revenue growth, and disciplined operational execution through scalable governance, financial rigor, and cross-functional alignment.

The VP leads a high-performing organization of portfolio managers, emerging leaders, and serves as a strategic partner to executive sponsors and senior leadership. This role is accountable for portfolio health, client retention and expansion, margin performance, and delivery risk management, while remaining hands-on as needed to resolve critical issues, support strategic accounts, and guide complex negotiations or escalations.

Executive Leadership & Enterprise Strategy

  • Define, communicate, and execute an enterprise-wide portfolio management and client delivery strategy aligned with corporate objectives, profitability targets, and long-term growth.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and thought partner to executive sponsors and senior leaders, influencing decisions related to client strategy, operating model design, and investment prioritization.
  • Establish and own enterprise-level KPIs related to portfolio health, client satisfaction, retention, margin performance, and growth; translate insights into actionable recommendations for the executive team.
  • Drive innovation in service delivery models, governance structures, and client engagement approaches to strengthen competitive differentiation and scalability.
  • Act as an executive owner for complex, high-impact initiatives or strategic clients, remaining directly involved when required to ensure successful outcomes.

Organizational Leadership & Talent Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a multi-level Portfolio Management organization, including Directors, Portfolio Managers, and emerging leaders.
  • Own succession planning and leadership development for the Portfolio function to ensure bench strength and continuity at scale.
  • Assess and shape organizational capacity, including workforce planning, role clarity, spans of control, and capability development to support business demand.
  • Set expectations for enterprise mindset, accountability, and client advocacy across all portfolio and customer-facing teams.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, operational discipline, and proactive risk identification.

Cross-Functional Alignment & Commercial Partnership

  • Partner closely with Business Development, Scientific Operations, Finance, Quality, and other functional leaders to ensure seamless client onboarding, delivery execution, and portfolio growth.
  • Influence revenue forecasting, demand planning, pricing strategy, and contract governance to optimize financial performance and delivery alignment.
  • Collaborate with Business Development and Operations leadership to integrate voice-of-customer insights into service enhancements, new offerings, and operational improvements.
  • Provide oversight and guidance on deal structuring, scope definition, and risk trade-offs for complex or high-value opportunities, engaging directly as needed.

Operational Excellence, Governance & Risk Management

  • Own the enterprise governance framework for strategic and high-risk accounts, ensuring appropriate executive engagement, transparency, and escalation pathways.
  • Lead and sponsor process improvements across proposal development, scope management, change control, and invoicing to drive efficiency, predictability, and margin integrity.
  • Establish and oversee account health scoring, performance reviews, and escalation protocols to proactively mitigate risk and strengthen client relationships.
  • Serve as the executive point of accountability during critical issues or escalations, working hands-on with internal teams and clients to drive resolution when necessary.
  • Establish clear accountability within the Portfolio Management organization for invoicing accuracy, timeliness, and closure, ensuring alignment between contracted scope, delivered work, and billed revenue.
  • Ensure Portfolio Managers operate with a strong understanding of contractual terms, scope boundaries, and financial implications throughout the client lifecycle.

Growth, Retention & Portfolio Expansion

  • Identify and execute scalable strategies for client retention, renewals, upsell, and cross-sell in close partnership with Business Development.
  • Guide Portfolio teams in proactively identifying expansion opportunities rooted in client needs, performance data, and long-term partnership value.
  • Sponsor and lead pilot programs with strategic clients to validate new services, operating models, or delivery approaches prior to broader deployment.
  • Ensure growth initiatives align with capacity, operational readiness, and overall portfolio health.

Minimum Preferred Qualifications (Skills & Education/Experience)

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in biology, chemistry, business administration, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressively responsible experience in portfolio management, client delivery, customer success, or related leadership roles within complex, matrixed organizations.
  • 10+ years of senior leadership experience with demonstrated success building, scaling, and leading high-performing organizations.
  • Experience operating in a CRO environment supporting scientific delivery, quality requirements, scope governance, and sponsor-facing financial and operational accountability.
  • Proven track record of driving measurable improvements in client satisfaction, retention, revenue growth, and operational effectiveness at enterprise scale.
  • Strong financial and operational acumen, with experience influencing margin performance, forecasting, and portfolio-level decision-making.
  • Exceptional executive communication, strategic thinking, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively at both strategic and tactical levels, remaining hands-on when necessary to resolve critical issues, support key clients, or drive complex initiatives forward.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

  • This is a full-time remote position, preferably on central time or east coast time
  • Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the โ€œcoreโ€ work hours as published in the BioAgilytix Employee Handbook
  • Occasional weekend, holiday, and evening work required
