About Brilliant.org

Founded in 2012, we develop software for interactive learning in quantitative and technical skills. We help people learn math, data, computer science, AI, programming, and science.

Our approach focuses on ‘learning by doing’ through guided discovery. Instead of videos, we use interactive lessons and custom, intelligent feedback to help you improve your thinking and reasoning from first principles.

Our math courses cover topics like Arithmetic Thinking, Proportional Reasoning, Probability and Chance, Visual Algebra, Solving Equations, Quadratics, and Calculus. For computer science, we cover foundational algorithm design and data structures. We track your progress, design personalized practice sets, and adapt to your pace.

We serve a wide range of users, including students, homeschoolers, professionals learning new skills or refreshing old ones, and lifelong learners. We are a Math Counts Foundation Partner and are accredited as a Supplementary Education Program by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Over 10 million learners worldwide use our platform, and we have over 100,000 5-star app reviews.

Mission & Values

Our mission is to help people excel in STEM, becoming better problem solvers more quickly and joyfully. We design an interactive, adaptive, and engaging learning experience focused on mathematical, quantitative, and computer science problem-solving. We make learning fun to foster intrinsic motivation and build a lifelong habit of self-challenge.

Our core values prioritize building a healthy business, which we see as essential to our mission. We foster an environment of excellence, adventure, generosity, and candor. We also promote a ‘high impact, low ego’ mindset, encouraging imagination, proposing the best outcomes, and committing to our mission.

Team & Culture

Our team has about 75 people, though the company size is 51-200. These individuals bring together creative, technical, pedagogical, and operational skills. While over half our employees are based near our San Francisco and New York City hubs, the rest of the team works remotely.

We value real-time collaboration and human connection, so all team members observe core online hours (9:30 am – 2:30 pm Pacific). Remote team members travel to team offsites once per quarter. Our culture is fast-paced and intense. We encourage individuals to grow autonomously, own projects from start to finish, and solve new problems. We look for people who are mission-driven, want autonomy and ownership, and have a generalist skill set. We value diverse backgrounds.

Benefits & Perks

We offer several benefits:

  • Comprehensive health care plans, with 100% of medical, dental, and vision premiums covered for employees.
  • Flexible paid time off (employees typically take about six weeks per year).
  • Home office equipment.
  • Professional development stipend.
  • Free food at offices.
  • Stock options.
