Role Summary
Most of our new business arrives through VC referrals and inbound marketing. Your job is to guide each startup’s interest in Burkland through our sales pipeline, from first conversation to signed engagement.
Along the way, you’ll help founders figure out what they need from our fractional offerings:
• Finance: CFO, controller, and accounting services
• Tax: tax compliance and advisory for startups
• HR : recruiting, onboarding, and HR systems setup
This role is ideal for someone with a few years of sales experience who also understands finance, accounting, or business, whether through a degree, hands-on work in those fields, or both.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Manage a high volume of inbound leads from founders and C-suite executives at VC-backed startups, moving each opportunity through the sales pipeline.
Run discovery conversations to understand each startup’s stage, funding, and operational gaps, then recommend the right mix of Burkland’s Finance, Tax, and HR services.
Build and nurture relationships with prospects, existing clients, and the VC partners who refer them to us.
Partner with Burkland’s CFOs, accountants, tax specialists, and HR team to scope engagements and hand off new clients smoothly.
Keep the CRM accurate and current so pipeline, forecasts, and follow-ups stay on track.
Stay informed on industry trends, market dynamics, and competitor activity in the startup services space.
Represent Burkland at industry events, networking opportunities, and startup conferences.
Minimum Requirements / Qualifications
2–4 years of sales experience, ideally selling services to startups, founders, or finance leaders.
A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field, and/or professional experience in those areas.
Enough fluency in finance and accounting to talk credibly with founders and CFOs about their needs.
A proven track record of converting leads and closing deals.
Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
Strong organization: you manage your calendar and pipeline with discipline.
A strategic, analytical approach to problem-solving.
Self-motivation and comfort in a fast-paced, remote environment.
Proficiency with CRM tools and Google Workspace.

The base pay range target for the role described in this job description is $65,000–$75,000 with commission, total on-target earnings are projected at $110,000–$130,000. Final offer amounts depend on multiple factors such as candidate experience and expertise, geographic location, total compensation, and market data. In addition, full-time regular positions are eligible for 401(k), health benefits, and other benefits; some of these benefits may be available for part-time.
