Payroll Team Leader

Job description

The Payroll Team Leader is a pivotal role within our global People Operations function. This position will oversee payroll operations across multiple regions across the globe  and lead initiatives to standardize processes, enhance compliance, and drive efficiency across our global payroll landscape.

You will act as both a hands-on operational lead and a strategic change driver — ensuring that payroll processes are accurate, compliant, scalable, and future-ready to support our fast-growing international organization.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll Operations & Compliance

  • Oversee accurate and timely payroll delivery for multiple entities across the globe (including Europe, Asia, MENA, Americas).
  • Ensure full compliance with local tax regulations, and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Conduct regular audits to identify risks, discrepancies, and process gaps, implementing corrective actions promptly. Serve as the key point of contact for internal and external audits related to payroll.

Process Standardization & Risk Mitigation

  • Lead the standardization and harmonization of payroll processes across all jurisdictions.
  • Design and document clear, compliant, and repeatable payroll procedures to ensure transparency and control.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks related to data accuracy, compliance, and operational continuity.
  • Develop robust internal controls and approval frameworks aligned with corporate governance standards.
  • Lead payroll transformation and process improvement initiatives from design to implementation.
  • Drive change management efforts across teams to embed new tools, standards, and ways of working.

Vendor & Stakeholder Management

  • Manage relationships with external payroll providers, ensuring high service quality, compliance, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Partner with HR, Finance, and Legal teams to align payroll operations with business needs and regulatory updates.
  • Review and negotiate contracts, SLAs, and performance metrics with external vendors.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a global payroll team to ensure operational excellence and professional growth. Promote a culture of accuracy, integrity, and continuous improvement.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of experience in global payroll management, including leadership responsibilities in multinational organizations.
  • Solid understanding of international payroll governance, tax compliance, and cross-border employment complexities.
  • Experience overseeing multi-country payroll vendors and system integrations.
  • Demonstrated success in leading process transformation projects and change management initiatives.
  • Strong project management capability — able to plan, execute, and deliver complex, multi-jurisdictional initiatives.
  • Proven ability to build, lead, and inspire diverse teams in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.
  • Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach and strong attention to detail.
