The Front End Developer / UI Designer is responsible for delivering intuitive, user-centred digital experiences by combining interface design and front-end development, ensuring accessible, responsive, and high-quality solutions aligned to user, business, and technical needs.
This is a 12 month contract role.
What you’ll do:
- Design and iterate user-centric interfaces, user flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity prototypes based on user feedback.
- Translate usability insights and research findings into actionable UI improvements.
- Develop responsive UI components using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript frameworks such as React or Angular.
- Collaborate with designers, researchers, and developers to deliver cohesive front-end solutions.
- Advocate for user-centred design principles and influence design decisions across teams.
- Conduct usability and accessibility evaluations to ensure compliance with requirements.
- Apply and maintain design systems and style guides across digital products.
- Translate prototypes and wireframes into scalable, high-quality front-end code.
- Contribute to continuous improvement through rapid prototyping, testing, and iteration.
What you’ll bring:
- Demonstrated experience designing and developing user interfaces using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript frameworks (e.g. React, Angular).
- Strong ability to work within established design systems and style guides.
- Experience translating usability testing outcomes into improved user interfaces.
- Solid understanding and application of WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility standards.
- Experience creating wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs using tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, or Axure.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders and articulate design decisions.
- Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and agile environments.
- Tertiary qualifications in design, ICT, or a related discipline (desirable).
