Senior Technical Project Manager
LOCATION:
Hybrid/Remote, with offices in Stellenbosch and Johannesburg for in-person engagements

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
- To lead and deliver one or more portfolio of projects.
- Portfolio management: To manage a portfolio of projects across all departments, aligning with the business strategy.
- Project Management: To manage all aspects of a project throughout its life cycle, communicating progress to all stakeholders and managing project budget and timelines.
- Lead delivery of technology projects by translating business needs into technical scope, coordinating technical teams (Architecture/Engineering/Security), and ensuring technical readiness for go-live/cutover/migration.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Technical Project Management:
- Drive technical scope definition and delivery
- Manage technical dependencies, risks and issues
- Ensure solution readiness (testing, cutover plan(s), rollback plan(s), communication, operational handover pack)
Portfolio Management:
- Manage one or more portfolio’s of projects and communicate progress to relevant stakeholders.
- Monitor the alignment of appropriate solution architecture with the business strategy.
Planning of Project:
- Plan all aspects of a project and capture the results in a comprehensive Project Management Plan (SOW & Project Plan), accepted and approved by the senior project sponsor (Client).
- Review and give approval to Project Management Plans that have been designed before the implementation of the project.
Directing and managing project execution:
- Managing the standard day-to-day of a project.
- Managing the expectations of clients by communicating the status of the project.
- Assisting project architects in the delivery of projects by getting them the required information that is needed to successfully complete the project.
- Direct and manage project execution, including managing the performances of project team members and supplies, in completion with project deliverables.
- Run regular technical delivery checkpoints (progress, blockers, defects, readiness).
- Coordinate changes through change control/CAB where applicable.
Master Project Documentation:
- Analyse and assess own as well as others project documentation, including Project Plans, Statement of Work (SOW), Exception reports, project progress reports, and other relevant project records within the portfolio’s managed by the Senior Project Manager.
Communication with Stakeholders:
- Communicate the status and performance of a project on a weekly basis to the appropriate stakeholders (External and Internal) as well as taking feedback from other project teams to the relevant project managers within the portfolios managed by the Senior Project Manager.
- Sending required updates and reports to both internal and external stakeholders.
RAID (Risks, Assumptions, Issues and Dependencies):
- Analyse and evaluate project risks and issues, and assist in finding resolutions.
- Escalate technical risks early with impact + mitigation.
Budgeting and Cost Tracking:
- Monitor the performance of a project against the agreed baseline (Time, Cost, Quality) throughout the project life cycle, as well as reviewing the project coordinator budgets.
Time Logging:
- Monitor the time log and ensuring that project milestones and deadlines are met.
Documentation and best practice:
- Review and advise on the documentation of best practices and lessons learned from the project to improve future project management efforts.
Project Reporting:
- Prepare regular project status reports for stakeholders, including senior management.
Project Closure (Handover):
- Initiate the handover of follow-up tasks to relevant stakeholders, both internal and client-side, for seamless post-project activities.
- Operational Handover: Facilitate a smooth transition by handing over project responsibilities to operational support teams.
Applying Change Management Strategies:
- Manage project scope applying formal change management for all changes (increase or reduction) to the previously agreed project baseline.
People Management:
- Oversee the development of direct reports (where applicable) through coaching, mentoring and facilitating their growth and career development journey.
- Actively seeking opportunities for professional development and staying updated on project management best practices and industry trends.
- Ensures efforts and contributions are aligned with the organization’s OKRs to enhance goal achievement and impact.
KEY REQUIREMENTS:
Required:
- Matric Certificate
- Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience
- 5+ years of experience in Project Management
- PRINCE2 (Practitioner) & PMBOK Exposure
- Previous technical experience (early career, hands-on)
CORE COMPETENCIES:
Technical Competencies:
- Working knowledge of Azure, M365, Entra (identity concepts, licensing awareness, basic architecture terminology).
- Working knowledge of network/security concepts (firewalls, VPN, segmentation, change windows).
- Comprehensive understanding of MS Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Experience working on a project management software package
