Element - creators of Matrix

We started Element in 2017 to provide a communications platform that integrates consumer messaging apps, collaboration tools, and video conferencing. Our goal is to replace email, prevent “shadow IT” concerns, and improve security by offering sovereign, secure, and interoperable communications built on the Matrix open standard.

We offer the free Element app, and the Element Server Suite. The Server Suite is a professional backend for organizations. It provides features like strong admin controls, identity and access management, auditing, and compliance tools. Organizations can host our solutions themselves or use our fully-managed service (or one from our partners).

Our platform ensures digital sovereignty, letting organizations own and control their data completely. It has end-to-end encryption by default and uses a decentralized network for reliable communication. The Matrix open standard allows our deployments to connect with partner organizations for secure real-time communication.

Our customers include government and public sector entities like NATO ACT, the United Nations, the US Department of Defense, the French government (Tchap), and Germany’s Armed Forces (BwMessenger).

We are headquartered in the UK, with offices in Germany, France, and the United States, which helps us meet international compliance needs. We were known as New Vector Ltd until 2025, when we officially changed our name.
