About Equality Now
We are an international human rights organization founded in 1992. For over 30 years, we’ve used legal advocacy to advance legal gender equality for women and girls.
We combine legal advocacy, regional partnerships, and community mobilization to achieve our goals. Our work focuses on structural change and addressing the root causes of oppression. We hold governments responsible for their international obligations to prohibit all forms of violence and discrimination against women.
Our campaigns focus on four program areas, with an emphasis on the unique needs of adolescent girls. Our main areas include sexual violence, sex trafficking, female genital mutilation, discrimination in law, and girls’ rights. We operate as a non-profit organization.
Mission & Values
Our mission is gender equality: a world where women and men have equal rights under the law and full enjoyment of their human rights. We operate based on the following core values:
- Integrity & Accountability: We build trust through honesty and transparency, value every voice, and align our actions with our mission.
- Inclusiveness: We work to dismantle power structures, elevate marginalized voices, and ensure equitable participation.
- Resilience: We sustain change through strength and care for individuals and our team.
- Empathy: We listen deeply, understand diverse perspectives, and act with compassion. We believe true change comes from seeing the world through the eyes of others—within our organization, among partners, and in the communities we serve.
