Job description

Flex is a growth-stage, NYC headquartered FinTech company that is creating the best rent payment experience. It’s hard to believe that it’s 2025 and paying rent on time is expensive, inflexible, and difficult. We’re here to change that! Flex enables our users to pay rent throughout the month on a schedule that better fits their finances and budget. Our mission is to empower as many renters as possible with flexibility over their most significant recurring expense. After deliberately keeping a stealth profile as we built up unprecedented investor support and an enthusiastic user base, we are looking for motivated individuals to help us keep our mission growing. Will you be a part of the team?

About the role

As a Senior Product Designer at Flex, you’ll help shape the future of financial access for consumers underserved by traditional products, partnering closely with our platform team to drive the evolution and adoption of our new Ultraviolet design system, as we migrate from our legacy foundation. You will lead initiatives from discovery through delivery—defining the system’s long-term vision, identifying opportunities for improvement, and creating scalable solutions that enhance product quality and team efficiency. Your work will ensure tight alignment between design and engineering by keeping our Figma libraries accurate, intuitive, and fully synced with Storybook components. Collaborating with product managers, engineers, data analysts, and a talented design team, you’ll play a critical role in building seamless, meaningful experiences that improve the financial lives of millions of Americans.

This is a hybrid position with on-site expectations in our New York Headquarters or San Francisco/ Bay Area Office, 2-3 days per week depending on location. For candidates outside of a required location, you may be eligible for our relocation assistance program.

What you’ll do

  • Maintain and enhance our Figma design system libraries, ensuring components are accurate, scalable, and easy to use.
  • Build, annotate, and publish components following Ultraviolet design standards and documentation best practices.
  • Contribute to and help manage design system libraries, maintain documentation on usage and guidance for stakeholders
  • Facilitate alignment with your cross-functional partners, stakeholders, and designers in other parts of the organization to ensure that our system is flexible and scalable
  • Partner with the design team to ensure that Figma components are optimized for usability and discoverability
  • Solicit feedback from and provide feedback to designers and collaborators across teams to align with core experience principles and systems best practices
  • Care deeply for and lead by example by setting the standard for high quality craft through your approach to design systems through interaction design, prototyping, and visual design choices
  • Collaborate across design and engineering to improve processes, documentation, and to ensure accurate implementation
  • Ensure Figma aligns with Storybook as a source of truth for what is built in code, partnering closely with engineers to maintain design–dev parity
  • Contribute to our Design System, by aligning it with industry best practices and evolving our patterns to scale a modern, polished user experience
  • Bring an excitement to adopt new technologies into your process to help us move faster and deliver even better results

Key qualifications

  • 4+ years experience designing and shipping consumer products
  • Strong Figma expertise, including component creation, variants, auto-layout, and library management
  • Experience maintaining and managing design system libraries for mid to large size design teams
  • Understanding of design tokens, component versioning, and scalable system architecture
  • Proven ability to document and annotate designs for cross-functional collaboration
  • Familiarity with Storybook or similar coded component libraries is strongly preferred
  • Experience working on or with larger, multi-disciplinary teams (design, engineering, product)
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
  • Comfort documenting and explaining system rationale and guidance, including leveraging best practices, research, data
  • Track record of supporting the design of simple, intuitive products that are powered by complex systems and edge cases
  • Demonstrated aptitude for getting things done to make your team successful – wearing several different hats when necessary
  • Strong native mobile app design experience (iOS and Android)
  • Figma expert, and experience using AI tools to sketch and prototype
  • Comfort with ambiguous problems
  • Motivation to be a self-starter
  • Passion for improving every day people’s financial well being
  • A portfolio of work detailing your contributions to shipped solutions

The compensation range for this role will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and Flex’s internal leveling guidelines and benchmarks. For working locations in NY/NJ/CA, the base salary pay range will be $156,000 - $172,000.
