About the position
We’re looking for a seasoned Backend Engineer to lead the architecture and development of our scalable, intelligent systems incorporating powerful AI features. In this hands-on role, you’ll use your proven software engineering abilities to design, implement, and maintain robust, high-quality backend APIs and services running on AWS as well as mentoring junior engineers as the team grows. You should be an excellent communicator and a natural problem-solver with a bias for action.
Tech stack: Python, Django, NextJS, PostreSQL, pgvector, Qdrant, RAG, OpenAI SDK, Langchain, CI/CD, Celery, BitBucket, Jenkins
What will you do:
- Lead backend architecture and development — Design and build scalable APIs, services, and async systems using Python, Django and Celery
- Own infrastructure and deployment — Manage and optimize AWS environments (EC2, ECS, Lambda, RDS) and build and maintain reliable CI/CD pipelines
- Develop intelligent, AI features — Integrate OpenAI, LangChain, and vector databases to deliver production-grade AI functionality
- Lead and mentor junior engineers through code reviews and provide technical guidance
- Participate in Agile ceremonies and stay up-to-date with backend, infrastructure and AI trends to help drive technical strategy
Qualifications
- 5+ years of proven software engineering experience with a deep focus on backend.
- Expert in Python/Django with a focus on performance and scalability
- Prior experience working in a fast-moving startup environment having taken a product from 0 → 1
- Proficient in AWS and infrastructure management.
- Proven track record of designing and shipping production-grade AI features leveraging LLMs, LangChain, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines.
- Hands-on experience of deploying, scaling and monitoring AI/ML models, including LLMs, on modern cloud infrastructure.
- Familiarity with observability tools (Sentry, Prometheus, etc.)
- Knowledge of microservices and event-driven architecture
- Ideally residing within easy reach of NY 10001 for hybrid working (2 – 4 days per week)

- $170K - $190K USD annually
