Industrial Color is looking for a visual merchandising designer to support our luxury beauty client. This role operates with a hybrid schedule, several days per week onsite in midtown Manhattan. The visual merchandising designer will be involved in various aspects of visual merchandising from initial design development to execution. The role involves developing innovative and customer centric design solutions through collaboration with the VM and Store Design teams. You will be charged with solving unique and complex problems that have a broad impact on the business. The designer will bring their ideas to life through presentation materials and detailed drawings. The ideal candidate can move fluidly between visual merchandising and store design.

Accountabilities

  • Create technical drawings and planograms in Sketchup and AutoCad for merchandising displays, launch units, and permanent merchandising.

  • Maintain awareness of trends, styles, materials and technology relative to the prestige and luxury beauty market.

  • Maintain knowledge and awareness of sustainable design best practices and proactively apply to all projects.

  • Format field team VM training guidelines and best practices for execution excellence & elevated merchandising

  • Draft complete design document packages for new & remodeled retail store interiors from conceptual design through design development.

  • Work closely with a cross-functional groups from numerous departments to include Marketing, Merchandising, Operations, Sales, & Construction among others to create comprehensive fixture designs that satisfy the needs of all departments

  • Assist with sourcing manufacturing of new projects once the design has been finalized

  • Review samples with the vendor’s representatives to ensure that all specifications have been properly followed and are approved for production

  • Create “design intent” drawings to be used in the sourcing of new fixture systems and displays for use in existing stores, as well as for new and remodel store programs

  • Support store execution with managing of detailed design/installation guides to help ensure flawless execution.

  • Strong understanding of Visual Merchandising / Merchandising required, ensuring store design and product presentation is seamless.  Must possess understanding of shelf, accessory and componentry materials, merchandising systems.

  • Track all production to ensure that each project is delivered on time and within the specified budget.

  • Coordinate the Project Kick off meetings along with VM with all departments involved and coordinate the final installation with Sales, Millworker, GC’s and Retailers, Produce the Punch List and follow up until completion.

  • 5-10 years related experience in VM, Store Design, etc.

  • Expresses and decodes Brand’s image, values and sense of purpose.

  • Requires in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge in own job discipline and basic knowledge of related job disciplines

  • Knowledge of Luxury product and aesthetic.

  • Uses knowledge of internal business issues to improve practices and procedures

  • Solves complex problems; takes a new perspective using existing solutions

  • Works independently, receives minimal guidance, self-driven

  • May lead projects or project steps within a broader project or may have accountability for on-going activities or objectives

  • Comprehensive knowledge of retail department store environments including ADA guidelines

  • Thorough knowledge of store design disciplines, building and code knowledge, fixture design, construction materials and manufacturing processes

  • Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, customer service, and time management skills.

  • Able to work independently and as part of a team and must have good time management skills.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to handle multiple projects and shift priorities as needed

  • Understanding of consumer paths and customer experiences rules

  • Strong understanding of finishes and materials, basic construction

  • Bachelor of Industrial, Interior, Product, Furniture design (or equivalent) degree is required.

  • Expert in utilizing SketchUp, AutoCad

  • Strong Adobe Creative Suite ability (Particularly Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign),Powerpoint

The anticipated salary range for this role is $105,000 - $119,000 annually. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience, and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
