Job Description
Role Overview
We are seeking a curious, detail-oriented, and highly organized Junior Researcher to support our growing portfolio of mobile subscription-based applications. This role is responsible for gathering, structuring, and synthesizing competitive, market, and product intelligence that directly informs monetization and growth decisions.
The Junior Researcher will work closely with the Product, Growth, and BI teams, feeding insights into roadmap prioritization, competitor benchmarking, and monetization strategy. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with data, thinks critically about the mobile app ecosystem, and actively uses AI tools as part of their daily research workflow.
Key Responsibilities
Competitive & Market Research
- Monitor and document competitor app strategies on a daily and weekly basis: pricing, paywalls, onboarding flows, feature releases, and ad placements.
- Track trends in the mobile subscription and app monetization space (rewarded ads, free tiers, trial mechanics, etc.).
- Compile structured reports and summaries that translate market signals into actionable insights for the product and growth teams.
- Maintain and update a living competitor database with consistent methodology.
App Store & Product Intelligence
- Analyze app store listings, reviews, ratings, and update histories across competitor and portfolio apps.
- Identify patterns in user sentiment, churn triggers, and feature adoption across categories.
- Support the PM team with research briefs ahead of roadmap planning sessions.
Data Gathering & Structuring
- Collect and organize quantitative and qualitative data from multiple sources (app stores, analytics tools, industry reports, forums).
- Assist in building and maintaining research dashboards and tracking templates in collaboration with BI.
- Ensure research outputs are clean, structured, and immediately usable by senior stakeholders.
AI-Assisted Research
- Leverage AI tools (e.g. ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and others) to accelerate research tasks: summarization, pattern recognition, report drafting, and data synthesis.
- Continuously explore and apply new AI workflows to improve research speed and output quality.
- Share learnings and effective prompting techniques with the wider team.
Cross-Functional Support
- Provide research support to Product, UA, CRO, and Monetization teams as needed.
- Assist in preparing presentations, one-pagers, and competitive briefs for internal reviews.
- Flag emerging competitive threats or opportunities proactively, without waiting to be asked.
Required
- 0–2 years of experience in research, business analysis, product, or a related role (internships count).
- Genuine interest in mobile apps, subscription business models, and digital product ecosystems.
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to synthesize large amounts of information clearly and concisely.
- Excellent written communication skills — able to produce clean, structured reports and summaries.
- High proficiency and daily use of AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, or similar) — this is a must.
- Comfortable working with spreadsheets (Google Sheets / Excel) and organizing structured data.
- Proactive, self-driven, and detail-obsessed.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with app store dynamics (App Store / Google Play), ASO concepts, or mobile analytics.
- Exposure to subscription metrics (LTV, churn, conversion rates, trial-to-paid).
- Experience using tools such as Sensor Tower, data.ai (AppAnnie), SimilarWeb, or equivalent.
- Background in a mobile-first or consumer tech environment.
Success Metrics
- Competitor tracker is updated consistently and used actively by the product and growth teams.
- Research briefs are delivered on time, clearly structured, and require minimal rework.
- AI tools are actively leveraged to improve the speed and quality of research outputs.
- Proactive flagging of competitive movements leads to roadmap or strategy inputs.
- Strong cross-functional feedback from Product, UA, and Monetization stakeholders.
