Lifebit

Founded in 2017, we are a biotechnology research company with 51-200 employees. We develop a federated data intelligence platform for secure analysis of sensitive health and omics data. Our Lifebit CloudOS and Lifebit Platform democratize access to omics data, letting researchers of all skill levels perform complex analyses and generate insights.

The Lifebit Platform unifies precision medicine data. It allows secure analysis across different institutions, borders, and cloud environments without moving the underlying data. The platform’s features include a Data Catalog to discover and manage health datasets, DataNetworks for creating and sharing data hubs, and LakehouseManagement, a federated lakehouse that supports health data lifecycle management without requiring extensive technical skills.

WorkspaceManagement helps teams collaborate and manage tasks, while OrganizationManagement oversees governance, security, and computational resources. DataManagement lets users track usage, monitor costs, and organize their generated data. For data preparation, we offer DataHarmonization, which uses AI to map data to models like OMOP or FHIR, and Multi-Omics ETLs for processing genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics data.

We integrate with various tools and environments. Users can “Bring your own Tools” from sources like GitHub and Bitbucket and launch data science environments like Jupyter, RStudio, SAS, and VS Code. The platform also includes a CohortBrowser for exploring and building cohorts without code, and DataIntegrations to connect with health data systems such as Epic, Cerner, and Meditech, as well as any cloud provider.

Advanced capabilities include TargetIdentification, which automates discovery across ancestries using population genomics and an AI-agent. PatientManagement handles patient data, including consent and audit trails, and PatientAnalytics supports clinical interpretation, pharmacogenomics, and risk analysis. The platform uses AI for mapping data to OMOP and source models, for AI-based cohort building, and plans to introduce AI-powered interactive sessions.

Our design principles emphasize security by keeping data in place, federation across sites and countries, flexibility with open-source technology, and adaptability for different research needs and existing ecosystems (AWS, Azure, GCP, on-prem). We serve pharmaceutical organizations, global research institutes, genetics companies, and public sector entities. Our users include Genomics England, 23andMe, Flatiron Health, and Boehringer Ingelheim. We maintain offices in the UK, USA, Singapore, and Portugal.

Our mission is to create a world where access to biomedical data no longer prevents us from curing diseases. We aim to revolutionize bioinformatics and biomedical data analysis. As CEO Dr. Maria Chatzou Dunford states, we believe all biomedical data that can save lives should be used.

We design our platform to keep data secure by not moving it from its original location.
