Job Description

The Media Group at NBCU supports a powerhouse collection of consumer-first brands including Peacock, NBC, Bravo, NBC Sports, and NBCU International. With unequalled scale, our teams make the most out of every opportunity to collaborate and learn from one another. We’re always looking for ways to innovate faster, accelerate our growth and consistently offer the very best in consumer experience. But most of all, we’re backed by a culture of respect. We embrace authenticity and inspire people to thrive.

The focus of the Commerce Product Design Team is on the user experience for people who are purchasing and/or managing their streaming subscriptions. The journeys could include offers for new paid customers, transactions, plan upgrades or downgrades, cancellations, account linking, surveys, etc. This role reports to the Director of Product Design, Foundational Leads.

As an experienced Senior Content Designer on our team, you will write and review messaging, design alternative explorations or advise on design layouts in Figma to clarify messaging, as well as develop, test, iterate, and launch experiences that are contextually relevant, exceedingly useful, and curiously entertaining.

What we’re looking for in a candidate:

  • You are an exceptional writer who considers writing a form of design. You know how to form a narrative and propel people toward action using a minimal number of words—and you can show examples of this.
  • You are driven, accountable, highly organized, highly responsive, self-directed, and adaptable—able to manage expectations and visibility with stakeholders, self-prioritize projects, pivot easily, work on multiple projects at once, and own both big ideas and practical daily output. No task is too big or too small for you.
  • You can interpret business requirements, ask the right questions to fill in the gaps, seek out data, and synthesize what you collect into clear, data-informed UI.
  • You seek opportunities to challenge yourself and improve the status quo.
  • You can think systemically, understand information hierarchy, organize content both on a page and across an experience, and proactively connect the dots to related experiences within the product.
  • You can brainstorm and present future solutions and take steps toward them while working within the limitations of what’s possible now.
  • You are accustomed to demonstrating the business impact of content design and comfortable speaking to this when starting or presenting work.
  • You can make data-informed decisions and have meticulously high standards when it comes to style, punctuation, and consistency.
  • You are accustomed to collaborating with designers and/or developers, and feel comfortable advising product owners, designers, executives, and other stakeholders on copy and content best practices, including those that apply to accessibility and SEO.
  • You are confident and resilient, enjoy sharing work in progress with others, and can parse feedback for continued iteration. You appreciate critiques, look for wins, and embrace failure as a chance to learn.
  • You deeply understand UX/UI fundamentals, and have experience writing for multiple devices across web, mobile, and CTV, and/or for different payment platforms and/or processors such as PayPal, iDEAL, M-Pesa, and various credit cards.
  • You embrace change and uncertainty with positivity, curiosity, and calmness—focusing on what matters most to get work done and make an impact.

What you will be doing:

  • Writing, designing, and editing/updating copy that makes our global streaming commerce experience feel easy to understand and use. This can include offers, subscription descriptions, transactional emails, CTAs, in-product messaging, notifications and error messages, FAQs, preliminary drafts of legal disclaimers/disclosures, and other touchpoints.
  • Designing copy that scales across a variety of contexts and platforms for different user cohorts.
  • Collaborating with product owners, designers, researchers, marketing, legal, data science, localization experts, and/or engineering to successfully deliver products to market.
  • Fulfilling or consulting on daily “short-order requests” and quick turnarounds as well as shaping and influencing messaging strategy, narrative, product flows and decisions, interface language, nomenclature, and other content for top initiatives and long-term iterations.
  • Creating style guides and other internal design guidance/reference materials.
  • Building an updating a reusable copy repository and aiding efforts to streamline copy workflows.
  • Identifying gaps between content design and development as well as across workstreams to reduce errors and inconsistencies.
  • Building rapport with other teams and evolving processes to improve consistency across the end-to-end customer experience.
  • Understanding and advocating for people who use our products—as well as the craft of content design itself.

Qualifications

  • A true love of words and wordsmithing.
  • Operational knowledge, training, and expertise in UX design, design thinking, product design, and/or web production/development.
  • A writing portfolio reflecting relevant experience, including shipped and currently in-market products, and demonstrating end-to-end design methodology.
  • Experience and comfort collaborating in Figma, presenting work to leadership, and conducting research and workshops.
  • Experience writing for UX/UI (digital experiences, interactions, complex workflows, or software products), e-commerce, and/or subscription-based products.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the field as a UX writer/content designer for digital products.
  • At least 8 years of experience working with marketing, legal, and/or global translation/localization teams.

Preferred Experience

  • BA in journalism, writing, liberal arts, design, or equivalent relevant education, certification, and/or professional experience.
  • Familiary with large corporate teams, design systems, content management systems, and/or tools like Miro, Figjam, Ditto/Frontitude, ChatGPT, Maze, or Microsoft Copilot a plus.
