Data Analyst / Visualization Specialist

Job description

Description

A Tunga client is seeking a Data Analyst/Visualization Specialist to assess their current data and reporting setup, define user needs across multiple stakeholder groups, and design dashboards that deliver clear, actionable insights.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a system assessment to identify what’s working, what isn’t, and what blocks automation and data triangulation

  • Run a needs assessment across key user groups (e.g., local government education/ICT teams, school leaders, partners, program staff)

  • Deliver a GAP analysis highlighting critical issues and opportunities

  • Define clear data outcomes for the next three years and translate them into measurable success metrics/KPIs

  • Design user-centered dashboard specifications for different audiences, including:

    • Partners needing updates on effectiveness, usage, and fidelity

    • Local government teams needing school-level performance tracking

    • Ministry-level stakeholders needing aggregated insights

    • Program staff needing operational and performance insights to improve the product

  • Design visualization approaches for core fidelity metrics (dosage, engagement time, syncing regularity, tablet functionality rates)

  • Produce wireframes/mockups and prototypes showing future dashboard capabilities

  • Create user guides and contribute to a phased implementation roadmap

  • Collaborate regularly with the client team, document work throughout, and support knowledge transfer

Requirements

Must Have:

  • Proven experience delivering systems assessments and GAP analyses in multi-stakeholder environments

  • Strong dashboard development skills (Power BI, Tableau, or similar)

  • Excellent data visualization, storytelling, and stakeholder engagement skills

  • Experience with user-centered design and translating needs into clear dashboard/technical specifications

  • Strong English communication and documentation skills

  • Ability to balance strategy with practical delivery, work independently, and meet tight timelines

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with education data, M&E, or development/humanitarian sector work

  • Familiarity with government partnership models in East Africa

  • Experience designing dashboards for non-technical users in low-resource settings

  • Background in participatory design or EdTech/game-based learning

  • Understanding of fidelity metrics/program quality monitoring

  • Comfort working remotely across time zones
