About Nomic Foundation
We are a non-profit organization that advances the Ethereum ecosystem through open-source engineering software. Our goal is to ensure Ethereum provides a high-quality, reliable developer experience, now and in the future. We support Ethereum’s growth by offering open-source developer tools and building meta-infrastructure for the open-source ecosystem.
Our key projects include Hardhat, an Ethereum developer environment for professionals to write, test, compile, deploy, and scale; Slang, a modular set of compiler APIs for Solidity code analysis and tooling, written in Rust and distributed in multiple languages; and EDR, an Ethereum development runtime implementation for building new developer tools. We build runtimes, compilers, build systems, and deployment solutions used by tens of thousands of users. We specialize in web3, Ethereum, OSS, and DevTools. We are a team of 11-50 people.
Mission & Values
Our mission is to help create a more decentralized world that empowers individuals with greater autonomy and choice by supporting Ethereum’s growth. Our goal is to ensure Ethereum continues to deliver a top-quality, reliable developer experience as a software development platform.

- Developer Experience: We prioritize a smooth building experience, seeing it as essential for ecosystem growth, and take pride in simplifying software development.
- Time is Precious: We respect the time of our users, the Ethereum community, external contributors, and team members, aiming for fast and efficient processes.
- High Standards: We choose challenging paths without compromising quality, while staying pragmatic.
- Level Up: We are dedicated to continuous improvement at individual, project, and team levels, embracing a beginner’s mindset.

- Kindness: We value and hire individuals who embody respect, compassion, empathy, and kindness.
We’re structured as a non-profit to address the need for public goods within Ethereum, ensuring our incentives align with the ecosystem’s interests. We are funded by community contributions.
Team & Culture
The Nomic Foundation is an impact-driven, fully remote team of 16 individuals from diverse backgrounds. The team operates globally, hiring within UTC+1 to UTC-4 time zones, and emphasizes alignment on mission and values. Work is largely asynchronous and autonomous, relying heavily on written communication via Slack and Notion to maximize focused work, which allows for flexible working schedules. The team comprises members from 10 countries, representing 11 nationalities and speaking 13 languages. A short team call kicks off each week on Mondays, and an unstructured team social is scheduled every two weeks.
To promote team bonding, the foundation organizes in-person retreats twice a year, each lasting approximately one week, in locations such as Malaga, Patagonia, and Tuscany. These retreats combine focused work with recreational activities. Engineering teams are small (typically 4-5 engineers), and team leads also code. A Head of Engineering leads the overall Engineering team. Development processes loosely follow Scrum and OKRs for quarterly and yearly planning. The culture encourages tackling deep technical challenges, creating mission-driven value, and using lean, robust engineering practices.
Benefits & Perks
We offer remote and flexible working arrangements, unlimited PTO, a stipend for home office setup or IT equipment, and an annual learning & development budget. You’ll receive a vesting ETH package as part of your total compensation. Depending on your employment contract, we also provide statutory benefits specific to your location.
