Job Description
Oddball believes that the best products are built when companies understand and value the things they are working on. We value learning and growth and the ability to make a big impact at a small company. We believe that we can make big changes happen and improve the daily lives of millions of people by bringing quality software to the federal space.
We’re looking for a Technical Lead to own the architecture and integration strategy for a cloud-native clinical decision support platform at the VA — someone who can make smart technical decisions and bring a team along with them.
What you’ll be doing:
- Lead FHIR, SMART on FHIR, and CDS Hooks integrations with VA EHR systems including VistA/CPRS and Oracle Health
- Define and drive system architecture and microservices approach across a polyglot backend environment including Kotlin, Python, and Spring Boot
- Set technical direction for the engineering team and stay hands-on where it counts
- Champion DevSecOps, CI/CD, and containerization practices across frontend and backend teams
- Evaluate AWS services and recommend cloud-native improvements
- Keep engineering, product, and stakeholders aligned — translating technical decisions into clear direction for everyone in the room
What you’ll bring:
Hands-on FHIR and API integration experience in complex, integration-heavy environments
Experience integrating with VA EHR systems such as VistA/CPRS or Oracle Health strongly preferred
Proficiency with Kotlin, Python, or Spring Boot on the backend and React on the frontend
Proficiency with AWS, Kubernetes, and Docker
Experience with Terraform and Helm is a plus
Familiarity with VA IAM, EntraID, or Okta is a plus
A natural leader who earns trust through technical credibility, not just title
Thrives in a remote, collaborative Agile environment and genuinely enjoys mentoring engineers and building team culture
Communicates clearly across technical and non-technical audiences, whether in a whiteboard session or a stakeholder update
Performs other related duties as assigned
