Open Function (OpenFn) is an integration platform that provides a secure, stable, and scalable infrastructure for connecting applications and automating workflows. We focus on enabling interoperability at scale for governments, NGOs, and businesses, particularly within the social sector, to connect Digital Public Goods with other digital services.

Our core platform, OpenFn.org, supports over 70 open-source Adaptors for integrating web APIs, databases, SFTP servers, or raw file exports. It includes a visual Workflow Builder for low-code automation, scheduling, and real-time execution. We also offer developer tools (like a Smart IDE and CLI), open-source software, documentation, and community resources.

For monitoring, the platform provides a complete history for auditing activity, troubleshooting, and retrying failures. You can deploy it as a hosted SaaS offering or self-host it on your own server. Our services include implementation, support, and training.

Founded in 2014, we have projects in 41 countries across 4 continents. We handle approximately 3 million workflow runs and 40 million records annually. Our technology stack includes Elixir, DHIS2, CommCare, ODK, Kobo Toolbox, Salesforce, HL7 FHIR, HTTP, PostgreSQL, MSGraph, NodeJs, TypeScript, Google Kubernetes Engine, Terraform, Ansible, Phoenix LiveView, and Tailwind.

Our mission is to double the social sector’s efficiency within 10 years by building an open-source workflow automation platform. We envision a public sector that optimizes its resources through diverse IT projects delivered by local actors.

We have a global team of 21 core contributors, including software developers, data engineers, designers, and automation specialists. Our total company size is 11-50 employees. Our team is distributed across 12 countries and 14 cities, primarily within Africa/Europe time zones, with individuals speaking 8 languages.

Compensation includes base pay aligned with our Equal Pay for Equal Work initiative and performance-based incentives.
