Job Description
About the Team
The B2B Marketing team contributes to OpenAI’s broader mission of ensuring responsible and widespread adoption of artificial intelligence. We are responsible for developing and executing strategies that drive awareness, engagement, and usage for OpenAI’s products and platform. We take a data-driven approach to understand our customers’ needs and challenges, ensuring that their voices are reflected in product development and messaging. We then partner closely with Product, Engineering, Growth, Sales, Research, Comms, and Design teams to create a cohesive customer experience across all our channels.
About the Role
We’re looking for a highly technical Product Marketing Manager to help drive adoption and growth of Codex. This role requires deep familiarity with developer tools, coding workflows, and modern AI-assisted development environments.
Codex is becoming an essential AI collaborator for developers—helping them write, understand, and ship code faster across real production workflows. You will help translate technical innovation into clear value for developers, shape how Codex is positioned in a rapidly evolving AI coding landscape, and drive programs that expand adoption and usage across the developer ecosystem.
This is a highly cross-functional role that blends traditional product marketing responsibilities with developer ecosystem fluency and growth thinking. You will work closely with Product, Developer Experience, Sales, and Growth teams to launch new capabilities, enable go-to-market teams, and ensure Codex continues to resonate with developers building software.
The ideal candidate combines strong product marketing fundamentals with deep technical fluency and a strong intuition for how developers discover, evaluate, and adopt new tools.
You’ll be responsible for:
Lead product launches for Codex and its underlying models: Build launch strategies that clearly communicate product-market fit for developers. Develop messaging and positioning, shape announcement moments, write launch blogs and technical content, and coordinate cross-functional teams through launch planning and execution.
Develop compelling messaging and competitive positioning: Define how Codex is differentiated in the rapidly evolving AI coding ecosystem across tools like Claude Code, Cursor, and other developer platforms.
Drive developer adoption and product growth: Partner with Growth and Design teams to design campaigns that increase awareness, acquisition, and ongoing usage of Codex across the developer ecosystem.
Create developer-focused content and narratives: Produce high-quality content including blogs, technical explainers, launch posts, demos, landing pages, and social content in collaboration with Developer Experience and Engineering teams.
Enable Sales and GTM teams: Develop technical narratives, sales materials, and enablement assets that help Sales and Solutions Engineering position Codex within real developer workflows and communicate its value to both technical and executive stakeholders—from startups to enterprises.
Develop a deep understanding of developer workflows: Regularly engage with developers and engineering leaders through research, customer conversations, Gong calls, and market analysis to understand how developers discover, evaluate, and use coding tools.
Bring developer insights back to Product and Engineering: Act as a voice of the developer by translating market signals and user feedback into product insights that help shape roadmap decisions and product strategy.
Measure launch and campaign impact: Track adoption, usage, and developer engagement metrics post-launch to continuously refine positioning, campaigns, and product messaging.
We’re looking for someone with:
Has 14+ years of experience in technical product marketing or developer marketing for developer tools, infrastructure products, or technical platforms.
Has firsthand familiarity with developer tooling and workflows and can engage credibly with engineers on topics such as coding environments, developer platforms, and AI-assisted software development.
Has led complex product launches involving multiple cross-functional teams.
Understands developer workflows and how developers discover, evaluate, and adopt new tools.
Is deeply plugged into the developer ecosystem and actively follows the evolution of AI coding tools such as Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, and similar developer platforms.
Has strong writing and storytelling skills and enjoys creating technical content for developers.
Works effectively across Product, Developer Experience, Sales, Growth, and Marketing teams in fast-moving environments.
Has an engineering background or degree (a plus but not required).
Workplace & Location
This role is based in San Francisco, CA, with a hybrid schedule of three days per week in the office.
