Job Description
The Role We Need
PadSplit is hiring a Regulatory & Product Counsel to help navigate an increasingly complex legal landscape as we scale our marketplace platform. This role sits at the intersection of compliance, product, and operations, translating evolving legal requirements into practical, business-ready solutions. You’ll act as a frontline legal partner, embedded with teams and advising in real time. This is a hands-on, hybrid role—approximately 50% regulatory/compliance and 50% generalist in-house counsel support. You will not be operating from a distance. You’ll be solving problems as they arise, owning outcomes, and helping the business move forward while managing risk.
The Person We Are Looking For
We’re looking for a business-minded attorney who goes beyond issue-spotting to deliver clear, actionable guidance teams can implement immediately. You thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments and are comfortable making judgment calls without perfect information. You enjoy being embedded in the business, working directly with cross-functional teams, and balancing strategic thinking with day-to-day execution.
You are:
- Practical and solutions-oriented
- Decisive and comfortable with ambiguity
- Hands-on and willing to own both high-impact and routine work
- A clear, concise communicator who can influence stakeholders
This role is best suited for someone who wants to be close to the action—not removed in a purely advisory capacity.

- Identify risks and deliver clear, decision-ready guidance
Business Partnership

- Perform audits of developing and existing federal and state-level regulatory requirements
Investigations & Regulatory Support
- Coordinate initial investigations and fact-gathering alongside customer support
- Support responses to regulatory inquiries, audits, or enforcement matters
Generalist In-House Support (≈50%)
- Handle day-to-day legal questions (host matters, customer experience escalations, general business issues)
- Support zoning and code enforcement matters
- Provide broad legal support as needs arise
Legal Intake & Triage (Core to Role)
- Serve as the first point of contact for legal and compliance questions
- Triage and respond in real time, managing a high-volume request stream
- Escalate higher-risk issues as needed
What You’ll Need to Be Successful
Legal Expertise
- J.D. with an active bar license (TX, FL, or GA preferred; East Coast hours required )
- ~5+ years of relevant experience
Regulatory Knowledge
- Familiarity with FCRA, Fair Housing, TCPA, consumer protection, FTC/marketing, and data privacy
- CIPP/US certification is a plus
Core Skills
- Strong legal research and writing
- Nuanced judgment applied to complex legal scenarios and practical risk assessment
- Ability to translate legal requirements into business-friendly guidance
Ways of Working
- Experience partnering with Product, Marketing, or Operations teams
- Ability to manage high-volume legal intake and prioritize effectively
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, evolving startup environment
- Comfortable working independently with appropriate judgment for escalations
- Clear, concise communication that delivers the ability to influence decisions
