Role Overview

We are hiring a Microsoft 365 Automation Developer to design and implement the automation layer that connects the firm’s case files, structured data, document templates, and AI drafting system.

You will build Power Automate flows, configure SharePoint document libraries, integrate DocuSign triggers, and connect an AI document drafting component (Claude) to a living “Case Summary” document that serves as the intelligence hub for each active case.

This role does not require legal expertise, it requires deep M365 technical skill, strong systems thinking, and the ability to execute a complex multi-flow integration independently.

Your Impact:

In this role, you will:

  • Build a conditional case intake form that structures all key case data at intake
  • Create a living “Case Summary” document that auto-populates from intake data and updates via AI analysis of new documents
  • Implement locked Word templates with content controls for complaints, demand letters, interrogatories, and other legal documents
  • Automate routing of signed retainers from DocuSign into the correct SharePoint case folders
  • Build workflow triggers for document generation when cases move into key stages (litigation, demands, closings)
  • Create weekly treatment update reports generated automatically from Excel tracking sheets
  • Reduce the attorney’s manual admin time by 10+ hours per week through intelligent automation

Core Responsibilities

1. Case Intake Form & Structured Data Layer — 25%

  • Build a conditional SharePoint/Forms-based case intake form with fields for case type, incident date, defendant names, insurance carrier, and case-type-specific fields
  • Ensure form logic reveals only relevant fields based on case type selection (auto accident, premises liability, mold exposure, etc.)
  • Connect structured intake data to automatically populate the top section of the Case Summary document
  • Design data schema that supports consistent downstream document generation

2. Case Summary Document & AI Integration — 25%

  • Build and maintain the “Case Summary” as the central intelligence document for each case
  • Implement automation that sends newly added documents (police reports, medical records, deposition transcripts) to the Claude AI API for analysis
  • Create flows that update relevant Case Summary sections (incident summary, liability analysis, strategic angles, damages overview) based on AI output
  • Ensure the Case Summary remains the reliable source of truth throughout the case lifecycle

3. Document Automation & Locked Templates — 25%

  • Implement locked Word templates using content controls that accept automated data insertion without altering formatting
  • Build automation for complaints, summons, letters of representation, interrogatories, requests for production, demand letters, and closing statements
  • Ensure AI-assisted drafting pulls from the Case Summary and relevant case documents while maintaining strict template structure
  • Test all templates for formatting integrity across multiple case types

4. Workflow Triggers & Folder Automation — 15%

  • Build Power Automate flows that trigger document generation when cases move into specific SharePoint folders (litigation, demands, closings)
  • Automate DocuSign retainer routing into the correct case folder upon signature
  • Organize court filings into docket folders automatically
  • Set up deadline monitoring for answer deadlines and other time-sensitive events post-service

5. Reporting & Ongoing Ops — 10%

  • Generate weekly treatment update reports from Excel case tracking sheets
  • Monitor flow health and maintain error logging for all automated processes
  • Document all automation flows and system architecture for future maintenance
  • Support iterations and additions as the system evolves

Must-Haves (Required)

  • 3–6 years of hands-on Power Automate and SharePoint development experience
  • Proven experience building multi-step automated workflows in a Microsoft 365 environment
  • Strong knowledge of SharePoint document libraries, lists, and folder-based triggers
  • Experience with Word content controls and automated document population
  • DocuSign integration experience (or equivalent e-signature platform)
  • Ability to work independently and execute against a defined architecture with minimal direction
  • Strong written English for async collaboration with the attorney
  • High attention to detail — legal documents require zero formatting errors

Nice-to-Haves (Preferred)

  • Experience integrating AI APIs (Claude, OpenAI, or similar) into automation workflows
  • Background in legal, healthcare, or other document-heavy professional services firms
  • Experience with Excel automation and report generation via Power Automate
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 premium connector licensing requirements
  • Experience building systems that handle sensitive or confidential data

  • Claude API / OpenAI API (or similar AI document integration)
