Sotheby’s, established in 1744, is a global marketplace for art and luxury. We help clients buy and sell items through auctions, private sales, e-commerce, and retail channels. Our operations rely on a technology platform and a network of specialists in 40 countries. We cover 70 categories, from Contemporary Art, Modern and Impressionist Art, and Old Masters to Chinese Works of Art, Jewelry, Watches, Wine and Spirits, Design, collectible cars, and real estate.

We sell fashion items (handbags, sneakers), fine art (contemporary, prints), luxury goods (watches, books & manuscripts, jewelry, sports memorabilia, pens & lighters), and motor vehicles. Our listings include items from brands like Hermès, Rolex, Cartier, Bvlgari, Van Cleef & Arpels, Patek Philippe, and J.K. Rowling.

Beyond sales, we offer free inventories and valuations for selling, insurance, estate planning, taxation, and collection management. For example, our Zurich office, opened in 1969 as our first in central Europe, provides expert guidance and hosts exhibitions and private sales in its gallery.

Our internal engineering teams build and improve software for both our internal operations and customer-facing platforms. They focus on delivering reliable and secure features and developing reusable code components.
