Job Description
About Stack:
Stack is developing revolutionary AI and advanced autonomous systems designed to enhance safety, reliability, and efficiency of modern operations. Stack’s autonomous technology incorporates cutting-edge advancements in artificial intelligence, robotics, machine learning, and cloud technologies, empowering us to create innovative solutions that address the needs and challenges of the dynamic trucking transportation industry. With decades of experience creating and deploying real world systems for demanding environments, the Stack team is dedicated to developing an autonomous solution ecosystem tailored to the trucking industry’s unique demands.
About the Role:
The Systems & Safety team is responsible for all activities ensuring the development of safe, reliable, and performant self-driving systems for autonomous trucks that will perform long distance transportation of goods, including actions such as safety case development, autonomy behavior definition, Operational Design Domain (ODD) definition and expansion, functional safety, product security, and more. We are mission-driven to develop, test, and field a product quickly that solves our customers’ needs, while also conducting that development to the highest degree of engineering rigor necessary for autonomous vehicles to operate safely on public roadways. As systems and safety engineers, we need your expertise to help us effectively test our AV system by developing simulation strategies, creating simulations, developing metrics, analyzing results of simulations for improvements, and more.
This role in particular will focus on the autonomy system of the autonomous truck, with work scope including simulation design and development, metric design and development, test result analysis, and AV Behavior definition. This role will require highly cross-functional work in particular with software teams developing autonomy software, simulation teams developing tools for simulation, and triage teams evaluating real-world behavior. A background or exposure to autonomous vehicle autonomy technologies and components is appreciated. Experience applying ISO 21448, Safety of the intended functionality (SOTIF) is appreciated but not required.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and guide simulation scenario test case development for evaluating system performance and behavior.
- Develop AV behavior metrics to monitor performance of the system.
- Identify and implement methodologies for discovery of new/unique behavior scenarios from test data.
- Analyze simulation test results and identify solutions to increase test coverage, increase scenario coverage, and determine correct AV behaviors.
- Develop test plans and strategies.
- Contribute to development of the safety case for the complete system and help ensure it is comprehensive and complete.
Qualifications:
- Experience in creating simulations and working within a simulation test environment.
- Experience in software engineering and algorithm design.
- Fluent in Python; Experience with C++ and SQL a plus.
- Experience conducting root cause analysis to determine underlying causes of issues and faults.
- Demonstrated experience working across highly cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high degree of engineering rigor.
- Exposure to, and familiarity with, software engineering across the full lifecycle, including software requirements development, software design, implementation, and unit & integration testing.
- Work products are developed in detail-oriented and quantitative approaches.
- Clear, concise communication of technical topics.
- Working knowledge of safety standards applicable to on-road autonomy such as ISO-26262, ISO 21448 (SOTIF), UL 4600, or equivalent.
We are proud to be an equal opportunity workplace. We believe that diverse teams produce the best ideas and outcomes. We are committed to building a culture of inclusion, entrepreneurship, and innovation across gender, race, age, sexual orientation, religion, disability, and identity.
