About the Position

The Principal, Consultant is a senior-level technical leader responsible for delivering complex, multi-discipline projects and serving as a trusted subject matter expert within your discipline. You may serve as the Project Lead on selected projects, where you’ll be accountable for delivering work profitably, maintaining alignment with scope, and evaluating project health regularly to identify risks early and keep work on track.

You’ll lead discipline-specific design efforts, elevate quality, and ensure coordinated, high-performance project delivery across teams. You’ll document client-specific processes and deviations from TEECOM standards to support onboarding, delegation, and consistent delivery.

You’ll strengthen TEECOM’s foundations by modeling best practices, contributing to discipline documentation, authoring Pull Requests, and supporting improvements to tools, standards, and workflows. You’ll collaborate closely with Group Leads, Team Leads to ensure consistent application of standards and to resolve challenges.

Externally, you’ll cultivate strong client relationships—serving as a trusted technical advisor through clear communication, reliable execution, and sound engineering judgment. You’ll also contribute to pursuits and interviews, shape technical narratives, and participate in client discussions that strengthen TEECOM’s credibility and help win strategic work. Internally, you’ll mentor engineers and production team members by providing technical guidance, design reviews, and actionable feedback that improves project outcomes and supports their growth. While not a people manager, you play a key role in developing TEECOM’s capability and strengthening discipline excellence.

Technical Leadership, Mentorship, and Improving the TEECOM System

  • As a Principal, Consultant, your impact comes from strong technical leadership, supporting the development of others, and contributing to improvements in TEECOM’s systems and discipline practices. You contribute in three key ways:

Technical Leadership

  • You elevate project outcomes by leading technical decisions and ensuring design quality, coordination, and documentation meet TEECOM’s standards.
  • You guide Designers, engineers, and production team members by providing clear rationale, helping them navigate design challenges, and reinforcing disciplined workflows.
  • You build trust with clients through clear communication, reliable follow-through, and a strong command of your discipline.

Mentor and Support Engineers

  • You strengthen project teams by coaching engineers and Designers, developing their judgment, and helping them improve design clarity and documentation quality.
  • When serving as a Mentor, you broaden your mentee’s experience by involving them in client conversations, site walks, design reviews, and documentation discussions.
  • You accelerate their growth by setting clear expectations, delegating meaningful work, and providing timely, constructive feedback—including through participation in quarterly performance assessments.

Improve the TEECOM System

  • You reinforce firmwide consistency by contributing to discipline standards, templates, and documentation through clear, well-organized Pull Requests.
  • You identify workflow or coordination gaps and propose improvements that enhance clarity, efficiency, and scalability.
  • You capture client nuances, lessons learned, and best practices to strengthen onboarding, delegation, and cross-team alignment.

  • You deliver coordinated, accurate, and well-documented discipline-specific and multi-discipline work on time, on budget, and to TEECOM’s quality standards.
  • You identify risks early, communicate them clearly, and make sound decisions that minimize rework and maintain project momentum.
  • You maintain strong utilization and contribute to financially successful projects within the scope and expectations set by the Project Lead or Group Lead.
  • You keep project documentation complete, accurate, and current—including design decisions, meeting notes, scope clarifications, and updates to the Design Decision Log (DDL).
  • You build client trust through clear communication and reliable follow-through, supporting pursuits by providing scope input, drafting or refining discipline fee proposals, and participating in interviews when needed.
  • You actively participate in client relationship development through networking events and conferences, direct outreach to clients and partners, and sharing intel gathered through documented interactions.
  • You strengthen TEECOM’s system by offering constructive feedback on templates, tools, and workflows and by contributing targeted Pull Requests that improve clarity and consistency.
  • You mentor Designers, engineers, and production team members through hands-on guidance, markups, and feedback that build judgment and strong documentation habits.
  • When paired as a Mentor, you meet regularly with your mentee, involve them in meaningful project activities, delegate with clear expectations, and contribute performance input to support their development.
  • You contribute to team and discipline knowledge through design reviews, internal discussions, and sharing lessons learned.
  • You stay current with industry trends and manufacturer updates and share relevant insights with your teams.
  • You collaborate effectively with Project Leads, Group Leads, and cross-discipline teammates to resolve coordination issues and support high-quality delivery.

Responsibilities and Expectations

Annual and Quarterly

  • Partner with Project Leads, Group Leads, and Team Leads to strengthen delivery consistency, coordination strategy, and discipline standards across projects.
  • Maintain visibility into project financial performance, scope alignment, and delivery health—identifying risks early and recommending adjustments that protect profitability and predictable outcomes.
  • Contribute to annual business planning by identifying client needs, emerging opportunities, and discipline trends that inform TEECOM’s strategy.
  • Support client relationship development through business reviews, strategic discussions, and participation in pursuits that strengthen long-term partnerships.
  • Lead or contribute to technical design reviews and QA/QC efforts that reinforce TEECOM standards, documentation clarity, and coordinated delivery.
  • Strengthen TEECOM’s system through targeted Pull Requests, documentation updates, and captured lessons learned that improve discipline workflows and scalability.
  • Collaborate on workload forecasting, resource planning, and delivery standards that support cross-team alignment and delivery predictability.
  • Contribute to discipline knowledge-sharing through training sessions, internal workshops, conferences, or TEECOM University participation.
  • When serving as a Mentor, provide structured performance input and development guidance that strengthens technical growth and leadership readiness.

Monthly and Biweekly

  • Lead discipline design, coordination, and documentation efforts—ensuring alignment with TEECOM standards, client expectations, and project objectives.
  • Maintain visibility into project schedules, staffing assumptions, and scope alignment—adjusting plans as needed to protect quality, profitability, and delivery momentum.
  • Lead or participate in key client and coordination meetings, documenting critical decisions, risks, and deviations in the Design Decision Log (DDL) and project tools.
  • Conduct or contribute to design reviews and QA/QC efforts that reinforce coordination integrity and technical excellence.
  • Advance discipline standards and workflows through targeted Pull Requests and documentation updates that improve clarity and onboarding consistency.
  • Support pursuits by refining discipline scope assumptions, technical strategies, and fee inputs to align with delivery realities.
  • Maintain financial accountability by supporting billing clarity, scope validation, AR follow-up, and accurate time and expense reporting.
  • When serving as a Mentor, delegate meaningful responsibility, provide structured feedback, and reinforce technical judgment and documentation discipline.

Weekly and Daily

  • Maintain alignment across projects by participating in coordination, client, and internal team meetings—clarifying priorities, surfacing risks early, and supporting forward momentum.
  • Lead technical guidance through design reviews, markups, and real-time feedback that strengthen coordination, documentation clarity, and delivery quality.
  • Maintain disciplined documentation across GitHub, Asana, Callback One, and the Design Decision Log (DDL)—ensuring decisions, client nuances, and coordination outcomes remain clear and traceable.
  • Support pursuits and active project work by refining scope assumptions, design strategies, and technical direction that align with TEECOM standards and client expectations.
  • Communicate proactively with clients, design partners, and contractors to resolve issues, maintain alignment, and keep projects moving forward.
  • Monitor project health—including scope alignment, schedules, deliverable quality, and coordination readiness—and recommend adjustments when risks emerge.
  • Execute discipline design, coordination, and technical decision-making with strong judgment while reinforcing TEECOM workflows and documentation practices.
  • Maintain accurate time, expense, and project updates that support forecasting, billing, and delivery visibility.

As Needed

  • Support Additional Service Agreements (ASAs), scope adjustments, and proposal development to maintain alignment between delivery realities and contractual expectations.
  • Strengthen client relationships by participating in strategic discussions, industry events, and outreach that supports long-term partnerships and future opportunities.
  • Contribute to recruiting, mentoring, and team development through interviews, coaching, and participation in internal initiatives that strengthen TEECOM’s discipline capability.
  • Conduct site visits, field verifications, and programming sessions as required, documenting findings clearly to support coordinated delivery.
  • Contribute to TEECOM’s thought leadership and marketing efforts by sharing technical insights, lessons learned, or project-based content.
  • Support cross-team delivery during high-demand periods or complex project phases to maintain firmwide alignment and momentum.

Supervisory / Mentorship / Training Responsibilities

  • Supervisory: When serving as a Mentor, you provide structured coaching and quarterly performance feedback for assigned mentees. You support discipline execution across projects by aligning Designers, engineers, and production team members with priorities, scope, and TEECOM standards, while surfacing dependencies, risks, and resourcing needs to Project Leads, Group Leads, or Team Leads for broader action.
  • Mentorship: Provide advanced technical guidance and design direction to Designers, engineers, and production team members. When paired as a Mentor, you broaden your mentee’s experience through design reviews, client discussions, and complex coordination challenges, reinforcing strong engineering judgment, documentation habits, and disciplined workflows.
  • Training: Contribute to discipline training by sharing lessons learned, participating in internal reviews, and supporting the development of training resources that improve technical consistency and delivery quality across teams.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred), Architecture, or a related field; or equivalent technical experience.
  • Experience: 8+ years of experience in AEC or related professional services with strong discipline-specific capability.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering coordinated, high-quality designs and making sound decisions within your discipline. (Telecom/ICT, Structured Cabling, Low Voltage)
  • Ability to lead discipline-specific portions of complex, multi-stakeholder projects with minimal oversight.
  • Strong understanding of project delivery workflows, client expectations, documentation standards, and coordination requirements.
  • Experience contributing to documentation updates, design standards, and QA/QC workflows through GitHub or similar platforms.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk (AutoCAD, Revit), Bluebeam Studio, Microsoft 365 Suite, Google Workspace, and GitHub.

Industry certifications preferred by discipline:

  • RCDD (Telecom/ICT) — preferred
  • EIT — plus
  • PE — plus
  • CCNA — plus
  • CDT — preferred
  • PMP — plus

Physical Demands

  • May occasionally lift or move equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment

  • Approximately 75% of work is performed in a remote or office environment using standard office equipment.
  • Approximately 25% occurs at client sites, including construction environments and existing facilities.
  • Construction sites may include exposure to elevated noise levels, dust, uneven or unfinished walking surfaces, variable lighting conditions, and active construction operations.
  • Utility rooms and similar spaces may have restricted access or may not fully comply with ADA accessibility standards. When access limitations exist, TEECOM will support coordinating reasonable accommodations with site-controlling contractor or alternative means to perform essential job functions.
  • All accidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions must be reported immediately to the site superintendent and internally to People Operations.

$145,000 - $180,000 a year

This compensation will vary depending on your role-related skills, experience, knowledge, and subject matter expertise. TEECOM is committed to making sure that we are the right fit for each applicant and that each applicant is the right fit for our team. As we get to know each other throughout the interview process, the compensation may vary within the stated range.
