About Tidepool

We are a 501©3 nonprofit organization founded in 2013. Our goal is to make diabetes data more accessible, actionable, and meaningful for people with diabetes, their care teams, and researchers.

We build open source software like Tidepool Web, Tidepool Uploader, and Tidepool Mobile. We are also developing Tidepool Loop, an FDA-regulated version of the Loop app, which will be available in the OS App Store and work with commercially available insulin pumps and CGMs. This product is not yet available for use.

Our platform integrates data from many devices, including Medtronic, Tandem, Omnipod, Dexcom, Libre, Abbott FreeStyle Libre products, Sequel twiist AID System, OneTouch, ReliOn, Senseonics Eversense, CareSens, Accu-Chek, Ascensia (Bayer) Contour, Companion Medical InPen, ForaCare TN’G Voice, GlucoRx, Omnis Health EmbraceTALK, and Trividia (True Metrix) meters. We also support telemedicine visits and offer a Population Health Dashboard.

Through our big data donation program, anonymized diabetes device data can be licensed by device makers, industry innovators, and academic researchers to support research and innovation. This program helps financially support Tidepool and other nonprofit diabetes organizations.

Mission & Values

Our mission is to make diabetes data more accessible, actionable, and meaningful for people with diabetes, their care teams, and researchers. We are deeply committed to the diabetes community, and many of our team members have a personal connection to diabetes.

We operate under the principle that people with diabetes own their data. We provide tools for access and give users complete control over sharing and anonymous data donation for research. As a nonprofit, we prioritize the needs of the diabetes community over profit-maximizing investors.

We value openness and transparency; our code, regulatory quality system, and project and product management tools are all open source. We engage with regulators like the FDA and HIPAA to incorporate modern software development techniques. Our approach involves starting small, iterating quickly, delivering Minimum Viable Products, and updating based on user feedback.

We embrace the unknown by listening to users and making our platform available to other developers. We actively work to fight the default of exclusion by building a diverse team to bring varied perspectives to our products and business.

Team & Culture

Tidepool is a small, focused team of 51-200 employees, entirely composed of remote workers, some of whom are based internationally. We have an inclusive, collaborative, and driven culture, united by our mission to reduce the burden of living with diabetes. Many team members either have diabetes or care for someone with diabetes, making them passionate diabetes advocates.

Tidepool supports the whole person with a flexible vacation policy and flexible work schedules. We are committed to diversity and inclusion, acknowledging that our current workforce does not fully reflect our desired representation of women, minorities, and LGBTQ communities, and we are actively focused on recruiting a more diverse workforce.

Benefits & Perks

We offer full-time employees a remote work environment, a flexible vacation policy (with a recommended minimum of at least three weeks per year), eight weeks of paid new parent leave, and a flexible work schedule.

We provide excellent medical, dental, and vision health insurance, with a $0 deductible plan for US employees. US employees also receive Flexible Spending Account (FSA) matching for out-of-pocket medical expenses up to $2700, and up to $5000 for child or elder care expenses, along with a 401k plan. Additionally, we provide continuing education reimbursement for professional development.
