Who are you?
You are an experienced Cost Consultant with a minimum of 3+ years post-graduate experience looking for the next step or are currently undertaking a similar role in a similar environment.
You are an experienced Senior Cost Consultant with 7 - 10 years post-graduate experience in cost planning and estimating looking for the next step, or are currently undertaking a similar role in a similar environment and looking to join a growing and dynamic team.
Please note this role can report out of our Calgary or Edmonton office.
Job Description
As a Cost Consultant, you will support project delivery across all stages, working closely with clients, consultants, and senior team members. Responsibilities include:
- Prepare Cost Management reports across all real estate asset classes in Canada.
- Assist with feasibility studies, estimates, and cost plans — including presenting final cost plans.
- Validate post‑contract cost changes and support value engineering and life‑cycle costing.
- Input into procurement strategies and drafting procurement reports.
- Support research into construction market conditions and analyze published market data.
- Interface with clients, consultants, and project teams at all stages.
- Support Senior Consultants and Associate Directors in business development and proposal efforts.
- Contribute to Turner & Townsend’s knowledge management systems by sharing insights and lessons learned.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards and participate in ISO audits.
- Assist Commission Managers in ensuring commissions are delivered to quality, on time, and within scope.
As a Senior Cost Consultant, you will lead cost planning, client engagement, and delivery across complex, multi‑sector projects in Alberta and nationally. Responsibilities include:
- Prepare and lead construction cost estimates across education, healthcare, residential, corporate occupier, and commercial projects.
- Take ownership of cost planning activities, including developing and presenting final estimates/cost plans.
- Manage client and consultant interfaces across all project stages.
- Provide leadership and guidance to junior team members.
- Lead value management and participate in value engineering, LEED analysis, and life‑cycle costing.
- Oversee cost analysis, cost checking, and valuation work.
- Conduct construction market research and analyze published data.
- Manage commissions, including project financials, fee tracking, and invoice preparation.
Other Key responsibilities at Senior Consultant level:
- Identify and support potential business development opportunities.
- Contribute to recruitment activities, including interviews.
- Participate in performance reviews for consultants and graduates.
- Ensure key project insights are captured and shared internally.
Qualifications
Cost Consultant - Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in cost management, estimating, or quantity surveying.
- A recognized University Degree in Quantity Surveying or related field
- Membership of Relevant Professional Organizations such as the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (CIQS); The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS); and/or Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering (AACE)
- Experience with estimating software (e.g., CostX) is an asset.
- Strong analytical, numerical, and communication skills.
Senior Cost Consultant - Qualifications
- 7 - 10 years’ experience delivering pre-construction and post contract construction cost services
- A recognized University Degree in Quantity Surveying or related field
- Membership of Relevant Professional Organizations such as the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (CIQS); The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS); and/or Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering (AACE)
- Experience with estimating software (e.g., CostX) is an asset.
- Strong leadership, client management, and team‑mentoring abilities.
