Hello UW team member!
Developing your career at UW is something we feel passionately about so we’re delighted that you’re exploring opportunities across the business.
If you’re interested in the below role, please ensure you’ve reviewed our internal application criteria and spoken to your line manager.
Please note we require you to meet the qualification/experience requirements below to be considered for this role.
We put people first.. It’s all about you..
Our vision is simple, an effortlessly rewarding experience where customers only need to tell us something once. We are redesigning our digital landscape to ensure that being multi-service means being seamless, whether that’s a lightning-fast onboarding journey, automated home moves, or proactive push notifications. We are investing heavily on solving root causes, not just symptoms.
We’re looking for a Technical Programme Manager is the bridge between high-pace engineering and operational reality. Working in unison with the Operations Transformation Programme Manager, you will lead the Digitalisation programme; the objective of which is to transform our digital experience for our customers across all of our products, so will span technology, process and organisational structure. You are responsible for ensuring that technical delivery is sequenced to minimise operational disruption while maximising the speed at which the business realises value.
Job Description
As the Technical Programme Manager for Digitalisation, your core responsibilities will be:
- Strategic Alignment & Roadmap Integration: You will maintain a unified, “single source of truth” view of all technical transformation activity. This involves aligning engineering roadmaps with the broader operational vision, managing benefit phasing, and leading post-implementation reviews to ensure we’ve hit the mark.
- Technical Risk & Dependency Management: You’ll navigate the intricate web of interdependencies across infrastructure, security, data, and engineering teams. By proactively identifying technical risks—such as latency issues or single points of failure—you will drive contingency planning and resolve “delivery collisions” before they impact our timeline.
- Resource & Quality Governance: Partnering closely with Engineering Managers, you will balance the delicate trade-offs between headcount, budget, and technical debt. You’ll ensure the programme maintains high engineering standards, championing best practices in CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and documentation protocols.
- Data-Driven Visibility & Agility: You will design and maintain real-time dashboards to provide executive visibility into velocity, health, and milestone completion. Your role is to foster an environment for agile problem-solving, allowing the programme to pivot quickly to maintain momentum without losing sight of the business case.
- Matrix Leadership: Establish and guide virtual teams across Product, Engineering, and Operations. You’ll drive results through influence and clear delivery commitments, holding diverse contributors accountable without the need for direct reporting lines.
- Operational Readiness: Ensure our tech “lands” safely. You will work with Customer Operations and Finance to guarantee that new features are operationally ready and that the intended value is actually being embedded into the business.
- Executive Visibility: Maintain a trusted delivery cadence and provide the CPTO and Leadership team with a concise, evidence-based narrative of programme health, velocity, and emerging milestones.
Qualifications
In order to be successful in this role, we’ll be looking for you to demonstrate the following skills, experience and behaviours:
Minimum requirements:
- Significant experience in technical programme/project management, with at least 3 years in a hands-on software engineering or systems architecture role.
- Proven ability to maintain focus and hold the organisation accountable over a long-term duration (18 months – 2 years);
- Ability to form effective partnerships and relationships with people both internally and externally, from a range of diverse backgrounds, sharing information, resources and support.
In addition, these are the key skills & experience required:
Technical Mastery:
- Strong understanding of Distributed Systems, Cloud Infrastructure (AWS/GCP/Azure), APIs, and Microservices architecture;
- Expert-level mastery of Agile, Scrum, Kanban and Waterfall, with the ability to “hybridise” frameworks based on team needs;
- Proficiency in Advanced Roadmaps (e.g. JIRA), GitHub, and data visualisation tools like Tableau or Looker;
- PMP, CSM or AWS Certified Solutions Architect are a plus but secondary to proven delivery experience;
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field is desirable.
Impact:
- Show pride and passion for managing risks, sequencing change and focusing on the impact delivered through the transformation programme. Create and engage others in delivering a shared vision. Value difference, diversity and inclusion, ensuring fairness and opportunity for all so that the human element of the transformation is never lost in the technical requirements.
Planning & Delivery:
- Expert at juggling complex, multi-stream programmes (think plate-spinning)
- You are comfortable with ambiguity and evolving landscapes to create a clear approach to collecting, tracking and validating metrics and KPIs from relevant teams, including finance, throughout the life of the programme.
- You have experienced large-scale transformations or operating model changes in a consumer-facing FTSE organisation;
Operational Excellence:
- You take ownership of decisions and hold yourself accountable for what you promise. You value diversity and inclusion, ensuring that the human element of the transformation is never lost in the technical requirements.
Leadership & Culture:
- Engage senior leaders and delivery teams alike . Communicate purpose and direction with clarity, integrity and enthusiasm. Respect the needs, responses and opinions of others.
- Cool headed in high-pressure situations . Take responsibility for delivering timely and quality results with focus and drive.
- You can challenge ideas confidently, but know when to create alignment to deliver impact of initiatives and celebrate success.
